We were lucky to catch up with Stevie Morphew Devey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stevie, thanks for joining us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
Most of the people in this industry do it for money. The money can be great, sometimes so great that it can get to your head. Money may be a reward for the work I do, but it certainly isn’t the purpose. This job for me was a calling. It was an answer when I prayed for clarity, but I heard gods voice loud and clear. I’m here to help people find their happiness, find their place, find their home. The circumstances I’ve come across to help people go well beyond just finding their homes. I’ve helped save an inspectors life, I’ve helped people to further their faith in Jesus, I’ve been able to use my financial blessings to help others in tough situations… and I know that’s where the real reward is.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My real estate team leader now, was my real estate agent for years. She prayed with me when we walked into a home that we loved and I knew right then that I wanted to be more like her. I wanted to press into my faith and make somebody feel the way she made me feel… Loved. The caring realtor team name stems from the lady that cared for her clients beyond her job description, something everyone on our team looks up to and now embodies as part of who we are. We CARE and it’s more than a word. We really really care.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big lesson I had to unlearn was creating my own disqualifiers. I think as humans we tend to naturally disqualify ourselves from our own potential based on past experience, or maybe another person speaking a word of negativity or doubt into your ear that you start to believe yourself. A turning point for my career was when I started to believe in myself beyond a shadow of doubt. If there’s another person on this earth that has what I want for myself, I can have it too, I just have to want it bad enough to give it everything I am.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think what’s helped me build my reputation is just being real, be relatable, being raw and most of all being kind. Kindness is one of the easiest things to give and sometimes it may not be your first reaction, but it’s always the best one.
