Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steven Pullin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Steven, appreciate you joining us today. What were some of the most unexpected problems you’ve faced in your career and how did you resolve those issues?
I have been on this beautiful planet for 36 years, and played music for 33 of them. As long as I can remember, music has been such an important part of my life. From my mother singing to me when I was a baby, to the many musical influences I had in my life as a young child. At five years old, I found my true love with guitar and drums. Over the years, I got the chance to record on a number of albums, as well as create and play live with the number of talented musicians.
In spring of 2021, I was part of a tragic event that caused me to lose most of the function of my body. I no longer have use of my legs or my hands. This was a devastating blow, considering how much dedication and passion I had to my music.
Getting back into making music through GarageBand and just being able to piece music together now, since I’m not able to create it anymore, was a bit of a learning curve. Everything I had done up to that point was all analog instruments, and now everything I use is digital.
So blessed to be able to still make music and create. The passion and drive I have now, after feeling like I lost something I loved so much, is unmatched from before. It gave me such a different outlook on creation itself and how I viewed music in general.
Through the last three years of hard work and dedication, also with the help of SoundCloud, I have been able to build such an amazing community all around the world, with so many great musicians. As Luke Combs said “ What I thought was going to be the death of me, was my saving grace. “

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I love every part of the creation process. From the recording and producing, to the mixing and mastering. Spending the last three years, looking at the more technical and engineering aspect of music, has given me a big leg up in my producing. Just having the love for it that I do, helps me deliver the best sounding product I can.
Whether I am engineering, producing dance and hip-hop tracks, or just helping somebody out with a piece of a project they can’t get right, or want a specific touch on, I’m doing it to deliver an excellent final product. Whatever I can do to make that happen.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
SoundCloud! The community on SoundCloud is unlike anything I’ve found. The amount of ears that my music has reached just because of the musicians I was able to build relationships with, Is the biggest game changer. Being able to connect with people around the world. Being able to hear new music and new artist across the globe, as well as being able to reach out to them for collaborations or remixes.
I would definitely not be why I am in my musical career, nor would I have a chance to make the amazing music that I was able to make, meeting the people that I have met. I have made business and personal relationships on there that will last a lifetime.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I feel the best way we can support our artists and keep a thriving creative ecosystem going is to do exactly that, and support them. Go to shows, Buy music and merch. Even if you don’t have the money to buy merch or go to shows, one of the biggest ways I feel we can support artist is by just showing somebody these artist. It doesn’t cost a thing, and word of mouth spreads good music like wildfire. Especially with the ability to connect with the musicians in other areas of the world.
There is no greater feeling as a musician to have somebody want to give you money for something that you have created. To invest in you as a musician. Even if that investment is somebody sharing my music with the world.
