Steven, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Studying, and over analyzing all things music is the most efficient way of learning it. There’s not a right way to do music, just like there isn’t a wrong way. Music is subjective to the listener, so what you learn is what you’re taking from it. I wouldn’t necessarily say that there’s a process that could have made it quicker, because everything takes time. Listening and having the desire to be better are the biggest tools for growth in any form of life. You will fight yourself more often than not, if you are not willing to be criticized.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So, I have been doing music, seriously, for 7 and a half years. Recording, music videos, writing, etc. I have been performing live for just over 5 years right now. The creative process of making music has completely taken over my mind. Borderline addiction. Whether I’m watching a movie, doing yard work, having a conversation, hell, even sleeping, it’s a constant thought. One thing that I believe makes me stand out in this industry is my work ethic, plain and simple. I take a lot of pride in being humble, but don’t take that lightly. I am very confident in my craft, and my ability to do my craft because of how hard I work.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have always said that my love for music is why I remain doing it. A lot of this industry, especially in todays world, want quick fame. They don’t care about how long it last, if it will be played forever, they just want to be rich. That’s not how I look at it. My main goal has and will always be to do what I can to provide for my family off of my music. No matter if that’s 30 thousand dollars, or 5 million. If making less money gives my listeners more of an impact on their lives, then that’s what I want.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Easily the excitement and love from a listener. Being able to go places, and having someone who is a genuine fan come up and tell me how much they love my music. A lot of times, it doesn’t feel real. I know that nobody has to say that to me, and that’s what makes it so special. They go out of their way to show their appreciation. It’s a beautiful thing.
