We were lucky to catch up with Steven Hamner recently and have shared our conversation below.
Steven, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
There are several businesses that I am involved on a weekly basis if not a day to day basis (feel fee to cut out or just use whatever you like)
Reach Training – This is our sports performance business that has two arms to it. We train high level athletes during their offseason’s, majority of the clientele are MLB & NFL athletes. Our other branch is used to serve underserved areas and give the same type of training that we give to professional athletes, to underserved areas. That is why we named the company Reach, because we are trying to Reach and have an impact regardless if it is a pro athlete or not.
Parallel Lending- This is our private credit real estate fund that I am part of. We lend capital to real estate investors, primarily builders and businesses who are fixing and flipping single family homes. We have investors that invest into our fund and then through a process we lend to our borrowers. We named it Parallel because we wanted to be in line with both our investors and borrowers and all have success as we grow in “parallel” with each other.
Hamner Homes- This is the name of my wife and I’s real estate business. Over the past 7 years we have done countless flips, have held rentals, and are now focused on short term rentals. We have several rentals in the hill country area as well as one project currently going on with more down the road. This is of course our last name and is what we do all our personal real estate projects under

Steven, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Not sure which business is more interesting to y’all or what y’all want to put out, so I’ll just put both down here.
Parallel Lending- This is our private credit fund where we provide loans to other real estate investors. I have two partners in this firm, Eric and Alex Boshart. We are all three the founders and are real estate investors ourselves. We have done more than 100 projects combined over the last 6-7 years and during that process have had to use different private lenders to help fund our deals. My wife and I started flipping houses during 2016 that eventually led to us creating Parallel Lending. Our first house we bought was in Houston, Texas and then we moved to Florida for several years, before coming to Austin at the end of 2020.
My wife and I created Hamner Homes when we started off. We honestly just wanted to take an adventure and see what would happen, so we pretty much quit our jobs in Houston as we knew it, and moved to Florida to start flipping houses. Our first few houses we would live in the house, flip it and sell it and then move on to the next one. We lived on the beach (west of Tampa), and flipped several beach houses out there. It was a great lifestyle living on the beach and flipping, however once we started having kids we decided we wanted to come back to Texas. So we moved to Austin without really knowing anyone.
We continued flipping, acquiring rentals, etc… and then eventually started Parallel Lending with my partners who I mentioned above. Alex Boshart is my best friend since 4th grade and his brother Eric is our other partner. We started Parallel at the end of 2022 and it has continued to grow that we ended up creating a fund at the start of 2024. Having dealt with so many private lenders in the past, all 3 of us had an idea of what we wanted in private lender (someone or company who provides a portion of the capital during a project). We are all involved in our own real estate investments as well as lending, so we speak the same language as our borrowers and our investing side by side them. “Private Lending For Investors, by Investors” is one of our slogans that we feel has helped with our current deal flow, refers, and the ability to relate to our borrowers since we are investors ourself. This model has allowed us to grow over the course of the past few years and 2025 has already taken large steps forward as we have taken on more investors, which has allowed us to lend on more properties and continue to grow. We want our borrowers and investors of the fund to all have success as we grow, which is why we named it Parallel in order that we make decisions with that alignment in mind.
Reach Training- We launched Reach in 2021 in Austin , Tx. Again, like mentioned up top. We did not know anyone when we first moved to Austin. My back ground is sports performance training as I have been involved in that industry for more than 12 years now. I started training athletes in Houston, then Florida for a little bit, before coming to Austin. We started a non profit in order to give underserved communities the same service, training, and attention to detail that we give our professional athletes. It has grown over the years, but we try to keep it boutique and low key so that we are able to really have impact on the athletes we are working with. We also train MLB athletes during the offseason as well as NFL athletes. Training the professional athletes is probably what we are more known for, but we have a branch that can give these services to younger athletes as well. We train out of a location in Dripping Springs in a metal building, kind of off the beaten path and ducked away. While that may not be the best business model, I prefer it that way. People would never know they are driving by a facility out in the hill country that could have 7-8 professional athletes working out at any given time.

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
Alex and Eric Boshart are my co founders in Parallel Lending. Alex is my best friend since 4th grade and his brother is Eric.
Brandon Butler is my co founder at Reach Training. He is a close friend from college and also worked in Houston with me at a facility called Fairchild Sports Performance. He has been with Reach Training since the start and is over all the college, high school, and youth training programs.

Can you talk to us about how you funded your business?
We initially all used our own money to fund and start Parallel Lending. We did the first two loans ourselves without raising capital from any other source.
Once those funds were used, we started small with family and close friends. As it continued to grow we started becoming more intentional on raising capital. As you raise more and more capital for deals, your network continues to grow. We are not experts in any means and it has taken time and is still a slow process in raising capital for our private credit fund, but we are just focused on providing a really good service and protecting investors capital at all cost. Eventually the capital comes and it starts to pick up. I am still personally heavily invested and the capital I used on those first two loans are still in the fund, I continue to add to it as well.
