We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Steven Bradshaw a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Steven, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
There are only a finite amount of pieces that one will be able to complete within a lifetime. I’m driven by that because I hope that my artwork will remain long after I’m gone. But I developed that desire organically over time as I discovered who I am. So sure… I wish I had hit it harder sooner. But it could be no other way than it is.

Steven, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a duel discipline artist. I’ve been a full time musician for nearly 20 years. I’ve toured the world performing and recording with Roomful of Teeth and The Crossing and many others. I recently released an album with composer Jacob Cooper entitled “SUNRISE” on Cold Blue Music
In addition to my musical life: I am a fully devoted visual artist. I attempt to paint/draw the subconscious and to distill my emotions and the subjects I absorb through a distorted dream state using a vocabulary that I developed over the course of many years.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
There’s a volume of interviews between David Sylvester and Francis Bacon. The purpose of the document is to get Bacon talking about his artistic process (which is of great interest to me) Listening to his raw honesty about how he regards his work is quite animating. It gets me into the studio excited to create
I also love to watch videos of spontaneous artists like Picasso, Basquiat, and George Condo painting in their studios. It’s deeply edifying and helps me break out of my limited tool box of artistic choices
