We were lucky to catch up with Stevél recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stevél, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I feel like when it comes to this career path there is no roadmap to get to your destination. Everyone has had their own way for breaking into the industry. This can bring a lot of uncertainty to people looking to want to make a living off of their art. The only advice I could give anyone who is on a similar journey as me is to just take the risk. There is no right time to pursue this career, if an opportunity presents itself take it. Even if you’ve never done it before just say yes! In order to go into places where nobody before you has been, you have to be willing to do the things that no one would.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Honestly, a key to making your way into this industry is not just who you know but more importantly, who knows you. for anyone who else relates to me I tend to not really enjoy social media however, as an artist, it is so important to have a strong social media presence. we live in an age now where everything is digital. Once you figure out your story and your way of connecting with your unique audience, or finding your niche for content creating you’ve won. As I’ve been on this journey I’ve realized that’s all there is to it and you don’t have to do it forever. to further expand upon that think about how many people might have started doing musical covers, and now sell out stadiums to their own albums. Or people who blew up off of TikTok, making funny videos, and now you see them in movies. so you understand that there is only levels to this and once you break the barrier of being unknown to building a buzz around your name and around your image, you’ve already done the hardest part of breaking yourself in the industry and now you can take your platform wherever you want.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Honestly, a prime example of resilience that I could share is just the stage in my journey that I’m in now. I’m at a point of transition, meaning, to be able to be fully reliant upon my job is an artist and entertainer. So right now I work full-time at another company actually working for law firm and the minute I get off I’m immediately in the studio recording new music. I get off at 9 PM and I go to the studio at 10 and I’m not leaving until one in the morning. I don’t say this to be like oh look I’m so great but just to show how much work you have to put in and knowing that once you do fully break in the industry, that’s when the work is just beginning. you have to become accustomed to late call times sometimes and just knowing that the work is never done that you will always be working the goals never to not work, but it’s just to change the type of work that you do.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding thing of being an artist would be when others can connect to your art, and draw their own parallels within your work. Now someone would argue that winning awards would mean more fulfillment for an artist, but that is just not true. If you have even just five people who your art has genuinely changed their life, those five is going to mean more to you than the 500,000 another artist might have and then by tomorrow he’s been replaced by somebody else.
