We recently connected with Steve Serrano and have shared our conversation below.
Steve , appreciate you joining us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
In 2013, I became interested in photography for the first time. There was no consideration for money, recognition, or anything else. I was inspired by the art and how a camera can take such beautiful photographs. It took me a long time and a great deal of experience to be able to produce high-quality photographs. It was important that I became better at it by any means possible. I asked friends, family, and even random people on social media to let me take their pictures at no cost. It was my intention to gain a better understanding of how to operate my Canon T3 camera. Due to the never-ending learning curve, I sometimes felt like giving up. So eventually, I reached out to a good friend of mine named Ken Irish. In addition to teaching me how to use the camera, he also taught me the basics of editing and lighting. Having learned the art through continual trial and error, I became a natural at it. Through the study of different styles and techniques, I was able to capture more intriguing and memorable shots. I was able to build my brand and identity, by expanding my eye to videography. Filming weddings, birthdays to now shooting music videos, commercials and more.
Over the years, I have worked with professional models, professional athletes, recording artists, brands, and businesses. The opportunity to travel and work with people in beautiful places has given me the opportunity to work in Grenada, Saint Lucia, Jamaica, the Bahamas, California, New York, Atlanta, etc. Through the lens of visual storytelling, Envision Imagery captures a moment in time by documenting love and style in their purest form.
Steve , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
As an artist, I am fascinated by photography and filmmaking as they provide me with the opportunity to capture and convey stories, emotions, and perspectives in a more visual manner. By capturing moments in time or displaying a sequence of moving images, they provide a unique way of telling a story. Through composition, lighting, and subject matter, photography enables me to capture a single moment and convey a message or evoke an emotion. We can use it to showcase beauty, document reality, or challenge our perceptions. Photographs can serve as a powerful tool for self-expression and communication, regardless of whether they capture breathtaking landscapes, intimate portraits, or powerful documentary images.
Filmmaking, on the other hand, combines moving images, sound, and editing techniques to create an entirely new level of storytelling. Using it, we can convey complex ideas, create narratives, and immerse viewers in different worlds. There are a number of aspects to the process of filmmaking, such as cinematography, directing, screenwriting, and editing, all of which contribute to the telling of a story. Creative skills, technical abilities, and collaboration are all required, making it a true multidisciplinary art form. There is a great deal of personal expression, exploration, and creativity that can be expressed through photography and filmmaking. Documenting reality, raising awareness, inspiring, entertaining, or simply sharing personal stories can all be accomplished with them. Photographing and filmmaking offer endless possibilities for intrigue and creativity, whether you are passionate about capturing the beauty of everyday life, pursuing a career in the industry, or using visual storytelling as a form of activism.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I have built a solid audience on social media by planning strategically, engaging consistently, and posting high-quality content. I needed to determine who my target audience was. Analyze the demographics, interests, and preferences of the target audience. Developed content and messaging that resonated with people. I collaborated with like-minded creators and looked for opportunities to cross-promote my business owners or collaborate on projects.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to inspire people through my creative art. I have a great passion for what I do and for making people feel good about my services. It’s important for me to provide money in time that my clients will remember forever.
