We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Steve Rudzinski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Steve below.
Alright, Steve thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Earning a full time living from one’s creative career can be incredibly difficult. Have you been able to do so and if so, can you share some of the key parts of your journey and any important advice or lessons that might help creatives who haven’t been able to yet?
Between creating indie films and acting it’s a dream come true to be able to earn a living to create and make people smile. It took a few years of keeping at it but thanks to CarousHELL and the Meowy Chronicles helping establish me, I finally feel like a success. There is certainly some give and take when it comes to how much I make has artistic reasoning versus marketability for financial reasons, but I think I walk a solid path of both.
Steve, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Realized I wanted to make movies when I saw Army of Darkness and started doing that when I was a teen in my backyard.
Just kept making movies, going to conventions to make contacts, and learning from my mistakes until I got good enough to have fans. I am definitely most proud of how many people constantly laugh at my work with Silver Spotlight Films and I hope to keep that up, while also being able to still pay the mortgage.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Buy independent works instead of just streaming everything forever. Streaming is great to discover new stuff, but if you find something you really enjoy and you want MORE of that to exist you *need* to buy from or otherwise directly financially support the creator of that movie. Streaming pays literal pennies, if it was our only source of income we wouldn’t be able to exist.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
NFTs are really stupid and a total waste of resources. I am proud to say Silver Spotlight Films NEVER ever considered toying with the idea of having or using them.
