We recently connected with Steve Gustus and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve , thanks for joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
Life is all about taking risks, if you never take a risk you will never achieve your dreams. I took a risk of leaving a 9 to 5 job to Dj full time. I think that you can’t get anywhere in life without taking risks. If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you have to settle for the ordinary. I am very passionate about Djing.
Music has been apart of my entire life. So for me to take the risk of Djing full time I knew it would all come together. One of the greatest joys in life is doing something you love.
Living with fear stops us from taking risks. I have been blessed with many opportunities in my Dj career, and if I not choose to take a risks on those opportunities, I would be stuck in the same position. I made the switch of being a Hip Hop Dj to being a open format Dj meaning that I can play all Genres of music, which has open up many doors for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Steve Gustus aka Dj Wiz Native to Snow Hill Maryland & Delmarva Peninsula area. I started Djing in 1978 and I have been apart of several Dj groups since the beginning of my career. I have done numerous Community and Celebrity events.
Currently I have partnered with a friend, Tucker Williams and we have started a Entertainment Company called T & S Entertainment Group LLC, as well as recently signing to Edmonds Music Independent Record Label. I am currently on air with multiple radio stations such as, in da mix Radio, Wesley Beats Radio, and Power Radio Nation which is a Syndicated Radio Station. My Hustle, Grind, and Execution of Djing has really made a difference in my career. I thank God, and my biggest fan & supporter my wife Alva Gustus.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
There’s always gonna be growth, improvement and adversity you just have to take it all in and do what’s right and continue to grow. Motivation is the key to growth. In order to grow your clientatele you must have consistency, Networking with like minded people studying your craft to go to the next level. You must promote your brand, your brand is the single most important investment you can make in your business. If you are great people will notice and more opportunities will come. Don’t be scared to present your brand to the world. If people like you they will listen to you, but if they trust you, they’ll do business with you. In today’s world social media has really help me grow my clientatele. Having a satisfied customer is the best business strategy of all. They will refer you to everyone they know.

How’d you meet your business partner?
I had a setback in 2016, I had a major stroke and brain aneurysm, and I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I wasn’t sure if I would ever go back to Djing again. Setbacks are nothing but a chance to reevaluate your goals. I have learned in life that we all go through some type of Setbacks. My setback has help me to succeed. Life is a series of experiences, each one of which makes us stronger, even though sometimes it is hard to understand. My setback turn into a major comeback. I am truly grateful for my Setbacks, because it has made me stronger. I am more focus on on my goals, keeping positive vibes, and keeping all negative things away from me My wife played a big part in my comeback.
She continues to encourage and push me to get back to the thing that I am so passionate about. I love to entertain people and watch them forget all their troubles and just enjoy themselves.
