We recently connected with Steve Dininno and have shared our conversation below.
Steve, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
Before I became a realtor, I was a full-time illustrator for over 30 years. Drawing from that experience, I’m heavily involved in my own marketing and design and illustrate all my marketing materials. On business cards, direct mail, social media posts, etc., I don’t use the standard head shot used by almost all realtors, but use an illustrated version of myself. It sets me apart.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
As a freelance illustrator, I was self-employed for my entire adult life. When I decided to change careers, it was an easy choice to become a realtor. I could remain self-employed and get to do something that was much more helpful to peoples’ lives. Real estate requires a plethora of skills. One must have social skills, negotiating skills, be super-organized and have a knowledge of the current market. It’s a fast-paced industry, so it’s essential that a realtor be in a constant state of growth.
As a realtor, my job is to be a trusted advisor and the #1 requirement is to ALWAYS be accessible to my clients. Homebuyers and sellers are dealing with the largest transactions of their lives, so they need to know that I’m just a shout away.
I think what sets me apart from other agents is that I will devise unique and creative ways to get my clients to their goals…and I’m a combination of fun AND relentless! I always remain focused on the target, but like to lower my clients’ stress levels by having some laughs as well.
My background is heavily art related, so it’s natural for me to think outside the box. This has served my clients well, because I always devise tactics that push their needs to the front of the line.
I’m most proud of the fact that all the clients who were strangers before their transactions…ALL…have become my friends. We get together, speak on the phone, reach out during happy and not-so-happy times.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I like people and that makes me want to bring some measure of happiness to peoples’ lives. I believe that’s sensed by the folks I work with. You can just feel it when you’re around people who like you and care about what happens to you.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
For me, referrals are #1. Because I do all I can for my clients, they’ve been so kind in recommending me to friends, family and colleagues.
