We recently connected with StephSquared TV and have shared our conversation below.
StephSquared, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time we realized we wanted to pursue content creation was filming while traveling. As a couple we love to travel so we decided to film our experiences while on vacation. We would film little things like us trying the different foods, excursions, site seeing and even “couple travel 101”. We filmed like we had been doing it for years, it came naturally to us. That start of filming content really opened our eyes to being able to actually do this full time. Why not, right? Why not do something that was so second nature to us, which motivated us to post more content. We started implementing skits, dances, and challenges everywhere we went. We received so much positive feedback and love on our Tiktok that we decided to create a Youtube channel to give our followers long form content. We created our first Youtube video when we traveled to Washington DC. Creating a Youtube video was a different ball game altogether, something neither one of us had done but we push through some first time jitters and we filmed our whole vacation from start to finish. The rest is history…
StephSquared, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Interesting enough, both of our names are Stephanie. Creating StephSquared TV was an amazing opportunity to work while doing something we love. Truthfully this was probably more of a fun hobby that took over our lives, in the most amazing way. We create short form videos for Tiktok (which is our main audience), Instagram and Facebook reels. For our audience that enjoy long form videos and want a closer look into our daily lives we also create content for youtube. For us it’s important to engage on every platform so our supporter can watch us on their favorite platform all the time instead of tuning into a platform they barely use once in a while. Our content is us: It’s fun, mushy, raw and it’s relatable. We’re proud of our growth thus far, we work hard and it shows in our results. Mostly everyday a supporter clicks on our profile from any platform there’s a new video, which is what new supporters can always expect when tuning in.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Something we had to unlearn, very quickly, is that as a creator you need a consistent schedule. A lot of new creators think “i can film on my time” or “I’ll post when i feel like it,” that’s a fast slope in the wrong direction. You need a schedule to stay productive and you need to be consistent to keep your audience engaged. Any time you’re inconsistent you are letting your supporters down and anytime you’re behind schedule you are only hurting yourself. Manage your time wisely and you will rarely, if ever, get burned out.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Editing resources are something we definitely wish we knew about sooner. A lot of videos that are posted on social media are not usually shot on the apps they are uploaded on. Higher engaging creators tend to use either a high tech camera or the 4k camera from their phone; which means you edit your own footage in editing apps like Inshot or Cap Cut then post it to the platform of your choice. You can most certainly use the in app cameras, editing tools and effects because that helps with the algorithm. However, we noticed higher quality videos attract our audience more.
