We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephen Payne a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with something countless entrepreneurs have had to figure out on the fly – how have you dealt with the rise of remote work?
I live on a boat in Malta. I used to live in London and Los Angeles. I’m still a photographer.
I don’t have a team.
There are no pitfalls.
I get to travel.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I got into photography when I was about 21. I’ve always taking photographs and it seemed like a really good way of earning a living.
I don’t really solve problems, I take photographs. I take good photographs. Good photographs means there’s no problems.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I’ve had to pivot twice. Once when I left London and moved to Los Angeles. I had to start from the beginning all over again. Then, after 27 years I left Los Angeles and now live on a boat in Malta. You could say that’s a bit of a pivot.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
If I go to an event and shoot pictures, I’m only going to post the very best pictures. People make the mistake of posting too many pictures, including the ones that aren’t very good.
I also have a YouTube channel and I’ve received work from that as well..
