We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephen Minton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephen, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
After working as an engineer for twelve years, in 2017 after several doctor visits, I discovered I have Multiple Sclerosis. I did everything I could do with the best medical team possible, but wasn’t satisfied stopping there. I found that nutrition could play a major part in helping anyone, but especially someone with an autoimmune condition.
I started eating better and in two years went from 240 lbs to 170 lbs! I wasn’t cured of MS, but could manage so much better than before. I found my passion was no longer mentoring younger engineers and leading teams, but rather talking about the great benefits of nutrition. With diligent self-education, I was able to speak about nutrition in pets – as the same concepts apply, good stuff in gives good results!
Now, I don’t enjoy the same pay as before, but my stress is entirely under control – and turns out, stress is more important. Plus I get to be my own boss (yeah right, that’s my wife!) and set my own schedule, can’t beat that!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We are a local family owned business, husband, wife, daughter, and two Frenchies. So everything I do is for my family and every product I carry has been approved by Audrey & Humphrey (the pups).
What really sets Pet Wants apart though is the freshness. Whether it’s food that was made literally weeks ago (versus months with any other brand, even the stuff the vet sells), antlers that were cut by me days ago, single ingredient treats that are bagged weekly, and homemade spaw products, everything we have is fresh.
Since I don’t have a brick and mortar store, I offer free delivery three days a week!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Word of mouth. Happy pets means happy owners and happy owners tell their friends!

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Farmers Markets. Folks that frequent markets for fresh produce, meats, and more for themselves understand and appreciate quality, fresh products for their furry ones too!
