Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephen Feldman. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Stephen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I’m happy to report that one of the most meaningful projects I’m working on is happening right now. I’ll be releasing my 6th solo album “The Swinging Sixties” in the middle of July 2024. On July 18th there will be a live show for the records release at Pau Haus gallery on Melrose.

Stephen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I came into the world naked in 1958. I was bathed in the swing of Sinatra. I was baptized by the Beatles, I was barmitzvahed by Bob Dylan. I had a religious experience when i was 15 and heard the Bee Gees singing how can you mend a broken heart on my Zenith transistor radio. I went to a local music store and grabbed a guitar or did the guitar grab me? I started writing songs. The songs moved me, they moved others. Pretty girls wanted to kiss me.
I left my home in Chicago, got into my Pontiac Astre and pointed it in the direction of Los Angeles. I got here the day Ronald Regan was elected president. Everyone had on skinny ties and wore pointy shoes.
I fell into a songwriting mecca called The Great American Food and Beverage Company. It was on the corner of La Cienega & Santa Monica Blvd. I honed my craft there. I met a guy named Bob Romanus there- we recorded 10 albums under the name Poppa’s Kitchen. I am getting ready to release my 6th solo album.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was 37 years old and I was waiting for my limo at the corner of art & commerce. I kept waiting for it to rain money. But the rain didn’t come. I got super depressed and had a good ol nervous breakdown. I went into therapy for the first time. I discovered Carl Jung. I became a therapist. Then after a couple of years the damnedest thing happened. My creativity came roaring back. I put out 16 albums-10 by my band Poppa’s Kitchen and another six solo records, along with work on various other projects. I had reinvented myself and rediscovered myself.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Participating in the art of creation. By myself and with others. Recording, singing and performing. Music is what makes the world spin round, it makes the sun come up. Before there was music, the world was flat.
So God invented the Saxophone and then the Tuba and he just kept on going til the world was nice and round.
