We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stephen Farrell. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stephen below.
Hi Stephen, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
My hope is that people will remember my desire to help others and ambition to make dreams into reality.
Stephen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Stephen Farrell and for the past 12 years I have been a Radiology Technologist by trade. Halfway through my career, I became a Cardiovascular Technologist in the specialty areas of Cardiac Catheterization and Electrophysiology. Now that we have gotten the big fancy medical words out of the way, I’ll explain to you how I began to pursue my walk as an artist/creator. It isn’t that I didn’t like my job as a healthcare professional (Which I still do as a contractor), but I couldn’t ignore my passion to be a creator/artist. As a product of a punk rock, hip hop, and skateboarding (Do the math on how I became an x-ray tech), I have always been heavily drawn to art in my own way. For me, that path included learning how to be a drone pilot. I suppose I was drawn to drones because of my mix of “nerdiness” and rebel mentality to think outside the box artistically. I say rebel mentality in a healthy way as I am actually man of faith and family which is where my core values live. Simultaneously, I love adrenaline and have a guilty pleasure of things like being in places I’m not really suppose to be. Ironically, Im actually a very safe and “rule following” drone pilot.
Starting in 2017 I began to create content as a hobbyist for myself and friends. After countless hours and practice, I was making content that started to make people say “wow!” out loud. Generating that sort reaction from people became an addiction for me. So, in May of 2019 I obtained my FAA Part 107 certification and Clover Sky Media LLC. was born as a drone service provider. In the beginning, I was making content for a few clients and I started to notice a trend that most of them needed more than just “drone stuff”. I also noticed that they didn’t know how to optimize or leverage their content. Which wasn’t their fault as they are focused on running businesses and don’t have time to focus on new trends, algorithms and data for the different platforms. Therefore, I made the decision to turn Clover Sky Media LLC from just a drone service provider into an all-inclusive content creation/solutions business.
I wanted my clients to know that we would have the ability to identify and solve their aches, pains, wants, and needs in the digital media world. This way, they could continue to operate their businesses knowing we are creating value on the back end. Recently, we have been getting great feedback from multiple clients on how our services have created value for them. From our aspect, this is highly rewarding and it keeps us moving forward with smiles on our faces!
Today, we have a built a team of drone pilots, cinematographers, photographers, editors, social media and SEO specialists. Clover Sky Media offers consultations and customized content packages for small businesses, construction, real estate, corporate events and so much more!
We are also especially proud of our “Cinewhoop” one shot style production service. During this production we are able consistently orchestrate and fly drones indoors, through tight spaces, and around people with customized micro drones (safely of course). This style production has been a game changer! The videos turn out so cool and we are super proud of how well they engage people. Our clients have had fantastic results using the cinewhoop videos for marketing.
Currently, we are implementing some new services and are working to create a new lifestyle brand. So, stay tuned and reach out to us if you or someone you know could use our services. We are more than happy to provide free consultations. God Bless!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I mentioned that I started Clover Sky Media in May of 2019 which was inconveniently right before the Pandemic. At that time businesses started getting crushed, and gaining clients for my services came to a complete halt. Businesses owners were just trying to keep their head above water, so of course they weren’t going to allocate funds for drone services. That said, I decided to invest in helping businesses with content services who were struggling. Not only because I was looking to further business with them but just because I cared as a human being trying to help others. This mentality is why my first career was in healthcare in the first place.
So, we shifted the model to invest in helping out while there were so many unknowns. As time went on, people were super appreciative of any help and concern whatsoever. In the end it was very rewarding because they remembered how we truly cared about them, and it wasn’t about the money at that point. we wanted to see them succeed and continue on. In my mind, it was a win/win… We were helping people in a time of need and that inadvertently led into multiple partnerships as things got “back to normal”. The other aspect is that the pandemic seemed to make everyone realize how important video content really is in their business. We were happy to help those businesses and now there is value all around as we continue to work with our clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me there are countless rewarding aspects, but if I had to chose my most favorite… it’s the inspirational aspect. When you really think of it, we are telling specific stories that form emotions, opinions and actions… and if you do it well, it transforms people. Sure, we work to help businesses sell products, or provide services etc. but, we also have the ability to inspire people. Whether its motivation to fulfill their dreams or to keep their head up during a tough time, or help you to be a better person in some way shape or form. Internally, I feel that having this outlet and ability is overwhelming in a good way and highly rewarding.
