We were lucky to catch up with Stephen Burdick recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
So in regards to becoming a musician, how I learned to do what I can do now is by.. just doing it. I would come home from school, and being at that age, have nothing to do but just play for hours. That’s really how you become proficient at anything in life- you have the desire, motivation, and work ethic to push yourself. Nobody can make you proficient at anything besides yourself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So I’m in Philadelphia based band, The Stone Eye, and also run a Philadelphia based label called Electric Talon Records. How I got into each is just by doing it and spending hours and hours learning the in’s and out’s of everything on my own, by asking questions to those who were more knowledgeable than me, and by putting myself out there. Networking is key, along with delivering a solid product and just being a nice, personable individual.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
They’re silly. I don’t get why people invest in them personally, but hey if it tickles your fancy then I guess that’s why the market exists. I’m into baseball cards, so that’s similar to NFTs. I just like the idea of physically owning something versus it being a jpeg.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Playing a great show to an appreciative crowd is probably the most rewarding part of being a musician. The high + sense of reward you get from that cannot be replicated in my opinion.
