We recently connected with Stephany Diaz and have shared our conversation below.
Stephany, appreciate you joining us today. Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.
One of the most defining moments in my life to date was deciding to leave my well-paid, corporate, stable job to start a business on my own from the ground up. Some of the questions I asked myself were: Who do I want to be, what do I want to represent and how do I want to help make a big impact in this industry? Those are big questions with bigger answers and this is when I realized I had a unique perspective to offer my aesthetic patients. I’d say the most stressful challenge was deciding to leave the stable paycheck behind. At the time, my fiance & I had just moved into a new apartment in Edgwater and our expenses were the highest they had ever been. Still, I knew that if I didn’t make the move now, life would only get more complicated as we grew our family. With his trust and support, we agreed to a 90 day give-it-your-all timeline before seeking alternate employment. To this day, I still look back and feel so grateful to him & that this business was a success from the moment I opened my doors – knowing it could have gone so many other ways. My advice to anyone considering their own practice is to believe in yourself before anyone else does – your husband, your parents. It’s about you & what you believe you’re capable of. Don’t be afraid to seek mentorship & help, stay curious, remain a student & know that its riskier to stay where you are right now. Go for it & don’t look back.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
The best way to describe how I got into aesthetics is – CHANCE. I graduated as a Nurse Practitioner in 2017 and was applying to primary care offices, urgent cares, you name it – just to be able to leave the hospital setting as fast as I could. A “were hiring” Facebook post from an old classmate changed everything for me.
At The Plump Room, we are known for minimally invasive cosmetic procedures that restore youth & improve confidence. The goal for our clients is to preserve natural features while conservatively improving the signs of aging as they come. The approach is always catered toward your goals first, and a harmonious outcome second. Steadily targetting symmetry and balance in an effective way, which is why typically a detailed plan is curated during our first visit.
Our approach is always to go at the speed of our patients’ comfort level and to provide maximum education about the services they are interested in. An educated consumer is a confident one, and at The Plump Room we are all about freeing you from the intimidating aesthetic experience.
Services available for booking are: Neurotoxins, Dermal Fillers, Morpheus8 Radiofrequency Microneedling, SkinPen Microneedling, Intradermal Injections. We also now carry Medical Grade Skincare products In-Office for purchase.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
To be completely honest, about a year prior to becoming an entrepreneur I wasn’t the same person you see today. I’ve never been someone to enjoy reading books but one thing that caught my attention from the start was podcasts. I listen to them on my drive to the office every single morning without fail, and it has changed who I am to my core in the best way possible. Specifically, it has built patience, taught me how not to react to the decisions of others or things outside of my control, how to be a better leader, have boundaries & articulate myself better among so so many other characteristics. My favorite podcasts are: Striaght Up with Trent Shelton, The Mindset Mentor with Rob Dial, The Ed Mylett Show, and Real AF with Andy Frisella.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I love this question because most people are surprised by my answer. Social Media. I haven’t missed a single day of putting out content since I opened a year & a half ago. The captions are usually intended to be transparent and educate someone, and hopefully answer questions that some may be too scared to ask. I won’t tell you that all my posts do great because most of them don’t but I will tell you this – I know people see them because its the only form of marketing I’ve used since starting the business. I do have a website but I don’t pay for ads yet, and I record, edit & post all of my own content on social media. Is it time consuming? Yes. Has it worked? Beautifully. However, I will not leave out that word of mouth & referral still beats any form of marketing out there. So another thing I also take pride in is giving each person that comes through my door the best experience possible. Always remember, good news travels fast but bad news travels faster.
