Stephanie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Have you ever experienced a times when your entire field felt like it was taking a U-Turn?
In recent years, the medical landscape has seen a remarkable shift towards a more holistic approach to health and well-being. This transformation has resonated deeply with me, leading to a significant change in how I approach health care. My journey into integrative medicine has been both enlightening and empowering, and I’d like to share why I made this transition and how it has impacted my life.
For as long as I can remember, my approach to health was largely conventional. Regular visits to the doctor, reliance on pharmaceuticals, and adherence to standard treatment protocols were the cornerstones of my family’s health regimen and how I practiced medicine. However, over time, I began to feel a growing disconnect due to the fragmented nature of conventional care. This realization prompted me to explore alternative avenues and focus more on a root cause approach.
Integrative medicine is not about replacing conventional treatments but about complementing them with additional strategies. It combines the strengths of traditional medical practices with evidence-based complementary therapies. The goal is to enhance overall health and well-being rather than merely treating isolated symptoms.
One of the most compelling reasons for my switch is my son’s medical history. He has eczema, asthma and food allergies which is what we like to deem in medicine “the triad”. I felt like every time we went into the pediatrician or allergist, it was always a symptom cover up or another medication prescribed. It was a conventional approach that followed a one-size-fits-all model.
I began incorporating detoxes, dietary adjustments, probiotics, and a specific vitamin regimen based on common deficiencies found in triad kiddos. My son’s eczema resolved, seasonal allergies lessened and he was able to stop his daily asthma medication.
This model also fosters a strong patient-provider partnership by utilizing a collaborative approach to help patients feel more engaged and informed about their own health. This is currently a huge problem with traditional healthcare and Tribe seeks to change that.
