We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Thomas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Stephanie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I first started creating just for family and friends in 2018. However, when the economy shifted, I realized that I needed to have additional sources of income coming in to support my family.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am Stephanie, a local crafter in the DFW area that brings an unique touch to home decor and apparel with my vinyl making skills.
I began crafting as a stress reliever from my day job that turned into a passion for creating personalized treasures.
My customers have ackonlwedged my meticulous attention to detail to ensure each piece is one-of-a-kind. My outgoing personality allows me to connect with my customers and understand their design perferences.
I believe these characteristics have helped me become a beloved crafter in my community.
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
I believe that society can be more of a cheerleader for small businesses by making conscious choices to support them over big businesses.
There are a few ways society can achieve this change.
Help small businesses by spreading the word and writing positive reviews and recommending them to people in their community.
Seek out local farmer markets, craft events, and independent shops to find unique hamdmade products to support the community.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I am still in the process of building my online audience.
I am making more visually appealing posts, creating more content for crafters, providing new tips/content to engage my audience, using popular hashtags in addition to my personal tags, and participating in more of a conversational way with my followers.
