Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephanie Suero. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

In 2015, I decided to make it official and work towards my Cosmetology license. A year and a half later, I reached my goal. I was finally a Licensed Master Cosmetologist. Since then, I’ve used my skills and knowledge throughout different paths of this field. From working on movie sets to having my own salon, I kind of did it all. It wasn’t until Covid hit back in 2020 where my business came to life. I was freshly laid off from my job. As so many other Americans, I was forced to draw unemployment. But I had this feeling that I should really invest in myself. And invest is what I did. After researching and receiving assistance from my sister regarding a variety of oils and their benefits, I combined my knowledge of all things hair and business management skillsets, my company, Express Hair Care, was born. It’s been a hit and the best thing I have ever decided to do in my life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

When I was younger, I use to always play in either someone’s hair or style the doll’s hair. Hair has always been a passion of mine. It was my first job during high school and it took me through my adult years. With so many years under my belt in the hair industry, I thought it was time to make it official in 2015.

I created Express Hair Care back in 2020. I’ve created hair products that promotes hair growth, moisture retention and overall a healthy hair/scalp journey. My products are significantly different than others that you’ve see on the shelves of your favorite stores. I say this because I only use 100% natural products in each one of my oils and gels. I don’t believe in placing chemicals onto the hair in order to achieve the best results. Best results comes from natural sources found on earth. I am dedicated to helping each one of my customers with the utmost respect and superb customer service.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?

The most scariest and exciting thing all rolled up in one is finding the money to start a business. My story is a little unique and I must say, a blessing. Back in 2020, when Covid hit, I was laid off from my job. I wasn’t too sure on what I was going to do next. Especially when it comes to monetary support. However, someone close to me suggested that I apply for unemployment. They said that unemployment was basically being handed out to anyone who was working and then was effected by the pandemic. I applied and like magic, and very quickly, I was approved. The unemployment amount each week was way higher that what I expected to be. So not only I was able to pay what I needed to pay, I also had extra money to spend. Instead of just spending uncontrollably, I decided to invest in myself, in my craft. That’s when the idea to create Express Hair Care came to play. The extra money I was receiving each week went towards every piece, every supply and every idea for my newly founded business. As I mentioned above, this experience was a true blessing.

How’d you meet your business partner?

So when it comes to Express Hair Care, it’s a one person company. However, that’s not to say that I didn’t have the help along the way. The most significant help that I had was from my sister, Jenny, who assisted me with creating each product. She has a vast knowledge when it comes to all things oils and their benefits. She provided me with a list of oils and the cons and pros for each. So all in all, I will always consider her like a co-founder of Express Hair Care.
