We recently connected with Stephanie Soto and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How do you think about spending on the little things / small joys when finances are tight?
It’s common to one day feel as if you’re on top of the world and the next day your world comes crashing down. As a creator our work is consistently inconsistent and with that comes inconsistent money flow. My first year as a creator I made very little money but it didn’t prevent me from finding creative ways to execute a vision I had. I spent time looking through other creatives accounts and DIY projects to thrifting and up cycling items for shoots and even asking friends to help bring pieces, be a model, etc. There is strength in community, without the help of my other fellow creative friends I wouldn’t have been able to create as many projects my first year and I am forever grateful for them.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Stephanie I am a Phoenix, Arizona based creative filmmaker & video editor supporting all sizes of film and content creation. I have developed a passion for documenting community lifestyle, fashion and events; bringing any moment to life. I fell in love with art at a very young age. I remember my first digital art class at the age of 13 and never did I think that 10+ years later I’d be doing this full time. The project I am most proud of would have to be my first attempt at a music video with a good friend of mine, Loressa. Every detail was executed to perfection from the studio, the lighting, the music, the outfit, makeup. I look forward to more creative projects with my close friends.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
As I grow older I find myself wanting to focus on the things that brings me back to my roots. I find inspiration through my upbringing like the music my mother would listen to growing up and get crafty like painting and DIY projects. As a kid I loved being involved in various projects at work. My mission is to continue to do so with every project I create and hopefully allowing my model/client to have the same nastolgic feeling when working with me.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is building that close connection with your model/client. It is very common to be uncomfortable and timid when filming especially meeting someone new I always try to break the ice engaging in light conversation and making “work” as fun as possible.
