We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie R (Pearled By Perry) Perry a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie R (Pearled By Perry), thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
In my industry some of the biggest trends I’m seeing is natural hair in the black hair care industry. With relaxers, wigs installs and stress contributing to hair loss, African American women are looking for a more natural approach to black hair care. Wigs have become a big trend because people have the desire to change their hairstyles as a way to reflect their own individuality. Traditional installs are slowly but surely making a comeback. Tape Extensions and Micro Links are becoming popular also.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Like many stylists, I have loved hair since I was a child. No matter if I was playing in my doll’s hair or styling my God sister with the hottest new hair trend, my passion for styling hair has always been evident, even throughout college when I studied being that sexy nurse or psychologist. I attribute much of my success to my dedication to this craft. Education has led my business for 20+ years and truly sets me apart from my peers. I have trained with some of the industry’s top professionals at Lively Technical Center in Tallahassee Florida. Also, when I couldn’t always find the perfect edge tamer to give my clients that finished look, I created my own! I’m proud to enjoy a career where I can foster a special and lasting connection with people and I love the confidence and smiles that a fresh look gives my clients.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been marketing. You have to spend money to make money. People are very visual so I am sure to show my craft on my websites, social media, magazines, etc… I am my brand so I make sure my image represents the level of GLAM my clients can expect when they book with me. Celebrities, bloggers, and Influencers are also great ways to grow your business. Their fame and status gets the product or service in front of a new and larger audience.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with my clients through my website’s contact list. I send email newsletters to keep them up to date on my products/services, new offers available, and other items of interest or value. I also maintain an active social media presence, being sure to engage and support my clients in their personal lives. Not only does this keep me updated on news from clients, but it also shows that I’m genuinely interested in my clients even outside of the shop. Brand loyalty is imperative to my success and it let’s me know I’m doing my job well. It leads to repeat visits and higher revenues. If a business is lucky enough to build strong brand loyalty they can expect life time customers and that repeat pipeline is unmatched!
