We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie Nault recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your creative career?
Every job can be a learning lesson. Even if that job is not in your “field” you can take advantage of learning lessons from being in that place, at that time. Much of my career as a makeup artist ran parallel to cosmetic sales. Learning to speak and communicate with other artists, colleagues and customers has been a huge asset to building my business. This experience has solidified the importance of developing relationships, communication and appreciating each client that I am honored to work on. For me, being in a creative field goes hand in hand with acting in a professional manner.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Working in this field since 2004, I feel I have learned so much about myself and honing my craft. What makes your brand YOU is how you set yourself apart from others. For me, I truly embraced my style of what I create. I love doing natural makeup and lash extensions that enhance the beauty already there. My goal is have you leave my chair feeling beautiful, but still able to recognize yourself. This is so important. Looking in the mirror and seeing YOU, only kicked up. Embrace where you are right now! In 2021, I started doing lash extensions. I love that I am able to add this service for my clients. As is true with my makeup style, my lash style is natural. Your lashes will not enter the room before you do. They will enhance your natural lashes and look like you woke up with mascara every day, without being overdone.
Offering makeup lessons has also been a great addition to my service list. I love to teach clients how to use products and find what works best for their complexion and lifestyle. We sit down and work through makeup you are currently using and see if there are any additional products that could simplify and shorten your routine.
I truly love to help women feel their best while still feeling like themselves.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is being trusted to create the vision of a client, executing that vision to the best of my ability and having the client say “Yes! That is exactly what I wanted. I love it! I feel so good!”. That is why I am hired, to assist with creating a look. To have the client feel good inside and out is the absolute best aspect of this job. Additionally, establishing lasting relationships with my clients who allow me to be a part of their most special moments is equally as rewarding.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
The goals I set for myself are ever evolving. I strive to push myself to dream big, reach out to contacts that can help me achieve my goal and enjoy the process and moment when I get there. Although not enough credit is given to all that has been accomplished. It is inspiring to set goals and dream of the life you want to live, but it is so important to check in with yourself now to celebrate your successes and all that you have overcome to get to this point. Finding that balance of living in the present and being happy while still dreaming is a lesser discussed topic of creatives. Give yourself the credit you deserve.
