We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Moye a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What’s been the best thing you’ve ever seen (or done yourself) to show a customer that you appreciate them?
One of the best things I did was gifted several of my fashion customers with Bling T-shirts, Bling beanie caps, keychains, and earrings to show my appreciation of their continuous support of S. Moye’ Fashion. My customers were very suprised I gifted them and appreciative. I gifted one customer a dress after being a long time customer and she was estatic. When I had a launch of my bling T-shirts I did lots of gift give-aways and movie theater tickets, with food hor-derves and beverage.
My salon Moye’ Hair Etc! clients I have had Customer Appreciation Day for several years where I served hor derves food and beverage at the salon. One year I rented a shelter in Highland Park and bar-b-qued and served lots of food, music and good vibes for Customer Appreciation Day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Becoming a Fashion Designer is actually my third profession which allows me to design fashion for women. I decided that creating fashion is what I always wanted to do so I had to pursue; because nothing else satisfied my soul. My brand S. Moye’ offers unique fashion highlighting women who are classy, sassy, and chic and like to stand out. It’s important that customers have a great experience whether it’s fashion online designed by S. Moye’ or custom designs to alterations. S. Moye’ niche is bling so wihin the design collections there will always be embellished fashion because most ladies like a little bling. I’m elated with the fact I create a range of designs from daywear, casualwear, custom design to eveningwear. S. Moye’ cares about sustainability and donates fabric to organizations and remenants for Artisians to construct blankets for the homeless. This helps to prevent non-organic fabrics from filling land fields affecting our environment. I’m super-excited to recently be selected by The New Pittsburgh Courier for “The Woman of Excellence Award” which will be held in December 2023.
We’d really appreciate if you could talk to us about how you figured out the manufacturing process.
I manufacture the S. Moye’ Fashion with other seamstresses. I have recently been interviewing and visiting manufacturers to source in the near future. I had the skill of sewing clothes since twelve years of age and also have a Bachelors degree in fashion design so this equipped me with the knowledge from drafting, patternmaking, draping, business, to creating my website, etc.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I attained funding for both businesses through saving money. I started saving money throughout my Nursing Career and downsized my living standards to fund Moye’Hair Etc and several years later I purchased a building to house the salon. Then 15 years later I finaced S. Moye’ Fashion thru diligently saving money from the hair salon.
