We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie Martinez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Honey & Rose was created after having my daughter Jade. Being a stay at home mom, I knew I needed a creative outlet that would let me blend my two loves (being a mom and designing) together. So, I thought “Why not create my own clothing brand?!” I love to match outfits with Jade and I get so excited when we can match from head to toe. That is how the idea of creating a ‘mama and me’ clothing brand was born. Now, I am even more excited that it has morphed into something bigger than just matching tees.

Stephanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi! I’m Stephanie, owner and creator over at Honey and Rose Apparel. The Original Motherhood Co. brand is a true marriage of my love for fashion and my love of being a mother. My daughter, Jade Rose, has been the ultimate inspiration and is the second half of our name (Honey comes from me “Steph-honey” and the “Rose” from her middle name). Growing up I always knew that I wanted to create and design. I attempted my hand at various schools, but ultimately found that doors opened for me organically. I spent a lot of my professional career working in the shoe industry which really opened my eyes to the possibilities of branching out on my own. Our first design, the Old English “Motherhood”, was a universal nod to every mom out there saying a little “you got this!” and now 6 years later is still our biggest seller. Each and every day I look forward to the opportunity to create designs that speak to moms from all over uniting us all together in the greatest hood there is. Motherhood!

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
As a business owner you always have to be ready to pivot and grow! When I started I was in my kitchen and quickly moved to our garage and now I am in a 1000 square foot warehouse where people can come shop and pick up their orders . As we have grow I have branched out and now offer custom graphic designs, embroidery and screen printing services. As well as started a new faith based clothing line called Good works Apparel. I want to give all the glory to God for blessing with the ability to create and be a successful business owner!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I would say that pursuing the fashion industry, despite being discouraged, makes me a resilient. Growing up I wanted to go to fashion design school and multiple people discourage and my parents not being able to help. I never gave up I new God had a plan for my life. I love that I get to be creative while building a future empire for Jade. I hope that by seeing me be a hard working business owner will show her that she is able to do anything in life. I want her to know that the possibilities are endless and there’s no goal that she can’t attain if she works hard and set her mind to it.
