We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie KING recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My mom is my greatest inspiration. She modeled consistency, hard work, and faithh for both my sister and I. She never preached success but showed it through her actions. My mom has this quiet strength about her; no matter how tough things got, she made it clear that quitting wasn’t an option.
That mindset has led me through every season of my career whether it’s leading through challenges, pursuing my doctorate, or mentoring teachers who feel defeated. Her example made me disciplined, grounded, and hopeful. I learned that success isn’t about perfection it’s about perseverance, faith, and showing up even when it’s hard.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Stephanie King, an educator, leader, and visionary entrepreneur who believes confidence should never come off. I wanted to create something that merges function with femininity, strength with style, and power with personality. That’s how Peek-a-Boo Gloves was born. It’s an accessory line designed for women who lift, move, inspire, dress, influences, and hustle hard, without losing their sparkle.
Peek-a-Boo Gloves aren’t just gloves they’re a statement piece. Each collection, from Tangerine Flex to Cotton Candy Clutch, Pewter Elegance to Sunlit Stunner, and the Sorority colors, all inspired by the idea that our gloves are made for women who believe in showing up strong, bring seen, looking good, and feeling unstoppable..
What sets us apart is our blend of luxury, attitude, and authenticity. Every design tells a story from the playful names, vibrant colorways, and that signature “peek-a-boo” cut that lets your personality shine through. My brand is about reclaiming the space as one where confidence meets couture.
Beyond the product, the mission is empowerment. I built Peek-a-Boo to remind women that you don’t have to shrink to fit in—you can lift, lead, and live out loud. I’m most proud of the community we’ve built—women who celebrate each other’s strength, style, and success,
So if you are a woman who loves accessories with attitude, Peek-a-Boo Gloves are your invitation to play hard, look good, and never hide your shine.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I had to unlearn was that support would automatically come from the people who know me best. I used to believe family and friends would be the first to cheer, share, and show up. But launching my brand, Peek-a-Boo Gloves, taught me something different — sometimes, the people who will champion your dreams the loudest are complete strangers.
When I first started, I had this mental list of people I just knew would buy a pair of gloves, post them, or hype them up. And when that didn’t happen the way I expected, I’ll be honest… it stung a little. But then something beautiful happened. Orders started coming in from people I didn’t even know. Women from other states, other walks of life who saw my vision, felt my energy, and believed in what I was building. Those “ribbon people,” as I like to call them the ones who tie everything together with their quiet support and genuine excitement — reminded me that purpose attracts its own tribe.
That experience shifted my mindset completely. I stopped waiting for validation from the familiar and started focusing on connection, authenticity, and gratitude. Every new customer, every kind message, every repost reminded me that support isn’t about who knows you — it’s about who sees you. And that’s been one of the most freeing and humbling lessons of this entire journey.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I started using the envelope system which is the old-school, cash-in-the-envelope method. I labeled each one: business fund, inventory, photoshoot, website, and even travel for vendor events. Every paycheck, I slid something into each envelope. Sometimes it was $20, sometimes $200, but it was intentional every single time.
When launch day came, I didn’t have to borrow, beg, or overextend myself. Every glove, every photo, every packaging detail was funded by me one envelope at a time. That process taught me patience, gratitude, and the value of delayed gratification.
It also made every sale that much sweeter because I knew the sacrifice behind it. I learned that you don’t need to have it all to start , you just need to start with what you have and stay consistent. The envelope system didn’t just help me save money; it taught me how to respect it. And that mindset has been the real foundation of my brand.
