We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie King a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
I had an idea of wanting to get into the business of doing shirts for babies, toddlers, children, and adults at the beginning of 2023. It’s a lucrative market and it allows you the luxury of having your own schedule. I spoke with my husband about the idea and he put me in touch with someone he knew who was currently in the business. When I tell you she was a Godsend. She was open to answering all the questions I had, giving me insight on how to operate, and things I would need to initially get started. She provided me with one-on-one training. Remind you, she was in the same business I was trying to venture into and not once looked at me as a competitor but a collaborator. My husband gave up his office to allow me to transform it into my workspace. I just love him. I started making apparel for my son over the summer of 2023. I officially launched my business, Sak’s Kreations, in August of 2023.
Stephanie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
A funny thing is that Sak’s Kreations has expanded beyond shirts in just a short time. I also do design work and crafting due to my child wanting to bring custom school supplies and treats to school. Programs, QR stands, postcards, party favors, school notebooks, and Christmas ornaments are just a few things I have done so far. I am proud to be doing something that I enjoy. I believe that drive and determination are different when you are doing what you enjoy versus out of obligation. Enjoyment also gives you patience and motivation to keep going even when you don’t get initial support or your business is slow to take off.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me thus far has been referrals from my husband and siblings. If they are a part of a conversation or they see a post about a need for a product that they know I do, they definitely going to refer me.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
