We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Johnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie , appreciate you joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
In 2019 I had my defining moment in my professional career. After working for a Health Company in the position of a Compliance Manager, I stepped down and started my own business. I was completely burnt out and my mental health was waning. I realized I was not valued in my position and it weighed on me heavily. I began to create various skin products for my family and I just for our personal use. After giving some products to a few friends, one of them liked the product so much they suggested selling them. There, Prim N Proper was born.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Prim N Proper Co focuses on holistics and healing by providing natural handmade products that support the physical, mental, emotional, environmental, and spiritual aspects of wellness. We are a company that creates handmade body products to support a happy and holistic way of living.
Prim N Proper is a small business founded on the passion of crafting natural products that improve overall health and wellness. Our mission: inspire others to improve overall wellness by adding natural, handcrafted products into one’s daily regime. Prim n Proper products are created to support the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of wellness.
My business was inspired mainly by my affinity for mental health wellness. Upon working multiple stressful corporate jobs and having seen loved ones including myself suffer from mental illness and burnout, I wanted to create products that would support a happy, healthy holistic way of living.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Because I don’t have a brick and mortar store, my reputation was solely built on word of mouth. I had regular customers before I even had a website built. Most of my customers are from word of mouth referrals.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back, I would change the focus of my studies that led me into my career. It still would have been in the medical field, the concentration just would be more on the holistic side of medicine versus the traditional side.
