We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Howell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Each piece I create is a heartfelt invitation for the wearer to embrace the extraordinary in the ordinary. In the hustle and bustle of our fast paced lives, it’s all too easy to overlook the beauty that surrounds us. I believe in the power of slowing down, connecting with the earth and soaking up the precious moments. My jewelry serves as a gentle reminder to pause, appreciate and find wonder in nature’s boundless beauty.
Whether you’re exploring a sunlit forest trail, strolling along a sandy beach, or simply savoring a quiet moment in your own backyard, my pieces are there to ground you, spark wonder and encourage you to approach each moment with a renewed sense of awe. They are tangible companions on your journey, whispering reminders to live harmoniously with the natural world.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
After taking a jewelry class during my first semester of college, I was enthralled. Metal’s remarkable ability to have fluidity, malleability and permanence fascinated me. Without hesitation, I embarked on a journey, dedicating my studies to the art of jewelry and metalsmithing.
In my early twenties, I encountered medical challenges that served as a wake up call, introducing me to life’s brevity and the unpredictability of the future. Since my earliest days as a little girl, I held a deep love for nature. However, it was during those trying times that I unearthed the profound revelation that connecting with nature was the key to authentically embracing the present moment and living fully in the now.
In our fast-paced society, so many individuals struggle to find solace in the present, caught up in the constant rush of daily life. It was through this realization that I recognized the opportunity to utilize my skills and creativity to craft something meaningful—a reminder of the importance of cherishing each passing moment and fostering a deep connection with the natural world.
Jewelry making has become my canvas, where I weave narratives inspired by nature’s beauty and offer you an invitation to slow down, embrace the present, and find wonder in the ordinary.
My deep commitment to our planet drives me to continually seek ways to minimize my impact. As a proud member of 1% for the Planet, at least one percent of all sales are donated to approved environmental partners, amplifying our collective efforts to protect the Earth. Additionally, every order is thoughtfully packaged using sustainable materials and includes free carbon offsetting.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist and creative is the freedom to align my core values as an individual with my career path. My branding and business are not merely a facade; they embody the lifestyle I aspire to live. My work inspires me to slow down, connect to nature and protect the planet not only in my business, but my personal life as well. My jewelry and messaging is intended to do the same for others.
It’s a powerful feeling to witness how my creations inspire wearers to embrace moments of stillness and wonder. In crafting with this purpose, I’ve found a deeper connection to my craft. It’s transformed my own approach to life, allowing me to relish the small joys that often go unnoticed in the hustle and bustle.
To know that my art aligns with my values and positively influences others is incredibly fulfilling. It’s a reminder that as an artist, I have the ability to spread meaningful messages, inspire mindfulness and create a positive impact both within myself and in the lives of those who wear and appreciate my jewelry.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
While the artistic foundation I gained in college was invaluable, I can’t help but wish there had been more emphasis on acquiring essential business skills. Classes in marketing, branding, product photography, accounting and bookkeeping would have been tremendously beneficial, as they are integral to running a successful creative business.
Upon starting my jewelry business, I discovered a wealth of resources that have guided me along the way. However, I believe it would have been even more empowering to learn about the realities of running a small creative business from the get-go. Balancing creativity with the practical aspects of entrepreneurship is crucial and earlier exposure to these skills would have given me an advantage.
