Stephanie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
6 years ago I started working with and supporting entrepreneurs and small business owners on an hourly, as-needed basis to start saving extra money. It was during this time that I realized there was a real need for flexible, hourly assistance but it was hard for people to source quality and trustworthy individuals to fill that need. After some serious thought, I decided I wanted to attempt to fill that gap and YourChoice Concierge was born. I left my full time job behind and jumped right in! Initially it was just myself supporting clients but as the client list grew I knew that the business was scalable and it was time to grow!
Scaling definitely wasn’t easy. I sacrificed a lot of time with family & friends the first few years to get YourChoice Concierge where it is today. I started by documenting systems and processes that streamlined each part of the business. From onboarding new team members, onboarding new clients, task tracking, payroll, invoicing and everything in between. In my opinion, those standard operating procedures were the key to scaling successfully! Processes and procedures can be time consuming to develop but once completed they will save you time, help eliminate errors & make you more productive!
Finding the right business software to help automate the processes was another very important step while scaling. After spending a lot of time researching, scheduling demos and budgeting, I found the perfect fit. The business would not be where it is today without Zoho One. It helped connect and automate a lot of our routine processes and has significantly increased productivity so I can focus on continuing to grow the business.
Last but certainly not least, scaling successfully involved learning to delegate productively. Deciding what not to do is just as important as deciding what to do! I had to tell myself the same thing I’d been telling our clients…you have to delegate to elevate. As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t get it all done myself. You have to be able to let go of some things in order to grow and scale. I started by delegating just a few things and as the business continues to grow, I continue to delegate!

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
At the age of 18, I started my first administrative assistant job and exceeded expectations quickly. After 5 years I outgrew my position and the company and took on a new exciting role with more room for growth. After working my way up to an Executive Assistant role and supporting leaders in the corporate world for 6 years I was told that our division was closing and the entire department would be laid off. I was fortunate enough to get plenty of notice (1 year) but I was still nervous about my future. I had only worked for 2 companies, was promoted several times, and loved my jobs so it was a hard pill to swallow when I was told I had to find a new job. In the months leading up to my last day, I started working with and supporting entrepreneurs and small business owners on an hourly, as-needed basis to start saving extra money since I wasn’t sure what my future would hold. It was during this time that I realized there was a real need for flexible, hourly assistance but it was hard for people to source quality and trustworthy individuals to fill that need. After some serious thought, I decided I wanted to attempt to fill that gap and YourChoice Concierge was born. I ended up being offered several other positions within the company before I left but decided to grow YourChoice Concierge and do something I was truly passionate about–providing support & solutions that help people succeed or make their lives easier.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for YourChoice Concierge has been referrals from current clients. When our current clients share how much we’ve helped them it lets others know that we’re a credible, trustworthy and successful company. Some clients will give referrals without being asked but it’s also important to ask for referrals when you know a client is happy!
