We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Green a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
The most meaningful projec to datet as been my film, Cracked Foundation. Cracked Foundation, I played the Lead Actress, Co-Wrote, and Executive Produced. The film is in honor of my grandmother who reared me from birth who transitioned unexpectedly during sleep. It’s a film that addresses the stigma of Mental Health, grief/loss, marital conflicts etc. I was the Lead Actress, Co-Wrote, and was the Executive Producer. I utilize the film as a therapeutic coping method as after the death of my mother, five months later my brother was murdered, and during the course of these major losses I was enduring traumatic personal challenges. I figured if I struggling mentally as a Licensed Psychiatric Therapist, surerly there were other people who had struggled as well. The very thing (Mental Health) I help others with across the world with everyday, I was unable to help myself with. The overall purpose of the film Cracked Foundation is to free individuals from the crutches of others opinions of them, the negative stigma with receiving Mental Health Treatment, and to understand everybody who live in this thing called, Life, at some point needs help and/or will need help. Just as important as our physical health is our mental health is just as important as the two are one of the same. They are a mere reflection of the other.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
By trade, I am a Licensed Psychiatric Therapist and work with Mental Health and Substance Abuse clients around the world. My heart and mind is natuarally wired to serve and help people reach their full potential. I am also a professional actress. I started in local theater and then branchd to television, film, and commericials. I always have been in front of the lenses but never behind a full production when “Every Single Action” completed is your responsibility. I became quickly acquainted with this when I became the Executive Producer, Lead Actress, and Co-Writer with my/our latest production, Cracked Foundation. In the entertainment industry it has become blazingly apparent that one must be creative and learn how to create their own films etc. Cracked Foundation was birthed out pain and depicits the stigma of mental health, grief, and marital conflicts. What was meant to be a therapeutic instrument for me has become a source of solace for others to view and experience as it can be watched on Amazon Prime and Tubi Television. The ultimate goal is to develop partnerships with those who believe in the power of divine intervention/change to create a Feature Film. Mental Health is an underlying; yet, ever persistent becoming pandemic in our communities and I want to shine a light because we can make a difference with normalization and by having a supportive presence. The film will then be pitched to networks such as: Lifetime, BET, Netflix, Peacock, etc. I am beyond grateful for what will happen as it is not a matter of if but when and who will receive the vision.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
We never know how our lives will transpire as we journey on this thing called, “Life.” There is no amount of money, connections, friends/family, material possessions own, spirituality, etc. there is always the possiblity of something occuring that can/will shake us to our core. This is what happened to me starting in 2019. In 2019, my grandmother who reared me from birthed transitioned in sleep, 5 months later my brother was murdered and later found in the mountain ravines in VA, and I, personally, was also in a major personal life crisis. It required every ounce of faith, fortitude, and fight from within to keep striving. In complete transparency, there were some days when I was beyond depressed, stressed, angry, frustrated, hurt etc. In other words, my life was a combination of a tsunami, torando, antomic bomb, hurricane, natural disaster all-in-one. Yet, everywhere I traveled I tried to keep a smile on my face and bring positive energy as I never wanted to bring others spirits down. it is only by the grace and mercy of God that I continue to stand.
I have evolved into a more stronger, wiser, and informed woman. I want to encourage every person who may been in some challenging times that these things are not happening to you, but FOR you and you SHALL overcome if you stay the course. Resiliency is not about how strong you are, how long you can last… rather resiliency is the fortitude and inner strength from within that keeps one foot in front of the other moving forward no matter the obstacle(s).
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
The first resource I wish I knew earlier in my creative journey would be fully knowing and believing in myself. I wasted so much time in self-doubt, seeking validation/approval, and not understanding the power I possessed. I had to come to the realization that the only difference from me and the next individual are that we both are on our own unique paths. Therefore, I then, developed a fresh perspective and started to authentically live truthfully in my self-worth, value, and gained unwavering confidence that I am well able to accomplish what I set out to achieve in this entertainment business.
It is my belief once an individual grasp hold to the frist resouce mentioned then the others will be revealed as you go such as: certified acting classes with teachers who are actually doing the work and not have you on the roster for “billing” purposes, attending workshops/conferences when you are actually prepared and ready to be seen not before time, establishing business/networking relationships for ongoing business purposes “show-BUSINESS,” creating one’s own production, distributors, on-going perfecting the craft, etc.
