Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephanie Granizo. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stephanie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
I am hoping to build a legacy of good memories and delicious desserts. I want the desserts I make to leave such an impression that when you remember that 50th party my cake is the highlight. The thought of my red velvet cake leaves a grin of happiness on your face. When you look at your baby shower pictures everyone remembers the cake! When Im said and gone I hope to be remembered as the heart of the party thanks to my cakes. I want to have reached celebrities, grand openings and other huge events. I want people to miss my cakes, my dependability and creativity. As the young kids say “ I come to slay and I hope to be remembered as the official “Cake Lady”.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am self taught baker Stephanie G and owner and designer at The Snack Pantry. I’m a mom and wife with 2 beautiful children, our son has Autism and he is the best big brother to his sister. I run a home based bakery in Ga where I design and execute beautiful edible dessert art. I have been in the kitchen all my life thanks to my late maternal grandmother Juanita and the baking comes from my faternal late grandmother Grace. These 2 women combine fuel my natural love of the kitchen so I grew up in a family where food was love.
After giving birth to my second child I began to get bored with basic cake designs for my kids birthday parties. So during COVID I beinge watched shows like Nailed It, Greatest Baker, Cake wars etc for months and by June I baked my first Unicorn cake for my daughter 3rd birthday and posted and people loved it. Unicorns were the trend and so I immediately had people asking for one as well. Next month I made my son a Toy Story cake for his birthday with a complete desert table. It was a hit as well and that gave me the confidence to take it a little serious. After 1 year I was applying for my LLC because I wanted to be professional and wanted to be taken serious. 5 years later and I’m so grateful my business is growing and still learning and I look for to more opportunities to create and reach new clients, followers and fans. I am great at recreating cakes that gone viral and have built a reputation as such so I can’t wait till the next trending cake happens! Clients are comfortable with sending me a cake they found online knowing that I will deliver. I have been complemented on not only my cakes looking beautiful but tasting even better! A lot of my clients are what most bakers would consider last minute orders. I understand life doesn’t always plan out the way you want it and I love to make a last minute order the highlight of the party! Last minute doesn’t have to be basic.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Thanks to being in the age of technology social media has been the best source of new clients for me. People like to post pretty, shiny things so I make sure my cakes are always photo ready because that one little @ can open a ton of doors.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I suffer with MS (multiple sclerosis) diagnosed in 2010 and was paralyzed for 9 months. Years later I still happen episodes and I have really bad days were I’m completely in pain but when I have a confirmed order no matter the pain I will give you my best. Recently I had surgery and even though I could have taken more then six weeks off and not taken orders I knew I had clients that were due for their annual parties and I had to push through to make it happen.
Life is full of challenges and those challenges build you or break you and fighting a disease that literally is breaking my body down you learn to fight and thrive while in the fight!
