We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Stephanie Edwards a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was 13 years old, my middle school English teacher asked me to be the school correspondent for my hometown newspaper. I wrote a weekly column and fell in love with the craft of writing. I knew I had to pursue a career that allowed me to interview others and share their incredible stories.
Stephanie , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a romantic suspense author, with a background in journalism and communications. I found inspiration to write my first novel in 2018 during a trip to Isle of Palms, South Carolina, with my husband and our sweet pup. Our beach cottage had a spooky backyard with old oak trees dripping with Spanish moss.
The moss whipping in the wind cast eerie shadows onto the house. The Haunting on Palm Court, the first book in my Isle of Palms Suspense series, practically wrote itself. And the next two books followed quickly. I’m proud to say that each of these books hit the No. 1 spot on the New Releases in Southern Fiction list on Amazon. I recently released an omnibus edition of The Palm Court Trilogy, which contains the books from the Isle of Palms series, plus bonus content such as recipes, love letters, photos and memorabilia.
Readers say my books transport them to the South Carolina Lowcountry, making them hungry for the comfort food, long for the breathtaking scenery and terrified of the ghosts who haunt my characters.
I’m always working on a new novel. Currently, I’m focusing on a romantic suspense novel that takes place in 1960s Appalachia. I’m getting close to completing the first draft. Then, it will be time to revise and finish doing research.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I’ve enjoyed building connections with readers, reviewers and other authors. The online bookish community is tight-knit and supportive. I’m so happy to have found my people.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have severe, chronic migraines. I’ve persevered through the pain in order to create work that is meaningful to me.
