Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stephanie Cedeno. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stephanie, appreciate you joining us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned how to crochet from my titi (aunt), when I was about 8-9 years old. I remember her teaching me 3 basic stitches to start. Over time she’d teach me more and give me yarn and hooks to take home. Id look forward to going to her house on the weekends to practice. Overtime I stopped but I feel like it’s something I remember clearly because it was a core memory for me. I realize now, that I learned it as a wellness practice. I learned it as something that brought me peace.

Stephanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Stephanie but I go by Steph mostly. Im a mother, artist and crochet designer. My business, CedCareCo. is a space for handmade goods for soul care. When I first started in 2019 I made hand poured, delicately scented candles and crochet market bags. In 2020 I gave birth to my daughter and a new offering of herbal tea blends. In 2021 I decided to turn my handmade business into a home for my designs and creative ventures with crochet. I have since created collections for fashion shows that tell a story and share wisdom on topics like yin yang and divine masculine energy.
I was introduced to crochet by my aunt when I was about 7-8 years old and I have been crocheting since. Currently, I work with clients to bring their visions to life in the form of wearable art. I’ve created things from home decor to gowns all out of yarn. Crochet is a wellness practice for me and after becoming a mother it was something I relied on for my mental health. I consider it a form of meditation. I believe that specific energy goes directly into the pieces I create and can be felt by those who wear it or have it in their homes. My designs are curated and inspired by my own personal experiences as well as the clients vision, ,making them unique to me and the client I’m working with.
I’m most proud of the way my pieces make others feel. I love witnessing how confident and divine they feel in CedCareCo. I put a lot of energy into each project as everything is made completely by hand. I truly believe handmade is luxury. My vision for CedCareCo. is to also provide a space where I can share this wellness practice with the collective. Curated specifically for those looking for creative ways to navigate the inevitable ebbs and flows of life.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
“Handmade goods for soul care”
Wellness is CedCareco.s’ mission. I crochet as a form of wellness and creative expression. The essence of crochet is stillness which soothes the soul. You can rarely multitask when you’re crocheting. It calls for your undivided attention.
My goal is to inspire others to embrace their creativity and honor their stillness. To empower your inner artisan as a wellness practice.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Im inspired by life experiences to create bold, authentic pieces. And in turn it provides healing for myself as well as my client, as they are able to embody individuality, confidently. Being able create in a way that invokes deep thought and self-assurance is the most rewarding part of being an artist.
