We were lucky to catch up with Stephanie Cahail recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stephanie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
A lot of people think that you can’t have a successful full-time corporate career and travel a lot. I aim to show people through my blog and Instagram that it’s definitely doable, especially with the shift to remote work! I make it happen by going on workcations (working remote while traveling) to either stretch my PTO or in addition to the PTO I take. I also take advantage of long weekends, such as Labor Day Weekend, when planning trips.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I’m Stephanie Cahail. I am 30 years old and live in Austin, Texas. I work as a software engineer full-time to support my true passion: travel.
I have always been obsessed with travel for as long as I can remember. There’s something about experiencing a new place – the sights, sounds, and smells – that makes me feel alive. When I went on my first trip outside the North American continent, I fell in love with learning about and experiencing the different cultures, cuisine, and histories of other countries. I discovered the joy of meeting new people while traveling when I went to Seattle to visit a romantic interest…and then hanging out with his friends instead.
As the age of social media has evolved, I’ve learned many travel tips and tricks through numerous social media bloggers and influencers. Through these incredible travelers I’ve even found the confidence to travel solo and discover parts of the world I never thought I’d visit! One thing I had to figure out on my own though is how to balance working a full-time job and traveling the world. I’ve learned through trial and error how to maximize my PTO and work remote while traveling the world so that I can see the world without giving up my 401K!
I created my blog, Steph Out Of Office, to share the travel experiences I’ve had and the tips and tricks I learned from other travelers and from personal experiences with the ultimate goal of inspiring others to step(h) out of office and travel the world!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
One of the most rewarding aspects of sharing my travel experiences is knowing that I’m helping people live their best travel lives. One of my friends decided to try staying in a hostel after I wrote about hostel tips, and she ended up loving it! I’ve also had the joy of sharing travel tips and recommendations on certain destinations via my blog or my Instagram and had some folks tell me they really enjoyed the recommendations. Even sharing my travel via Instagram has inspired and encouraged my family and friends to see more of the world. Travel is such an enriching part of my life, and it’s incredible being able to share that with my followers and inspire them to travel more!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I started my blog with a broad focus, and I’ll still share more general travel tips, but I’d like to narrow my focus to providing resources and advice for traveling while working a full-time job. A lot of people don’t think that it’s doable, or that your job performance will be affected by your travel lifestyle, but with proper planning and resources it’s doable! So much of our time is given to Corporate America in our short lives, and I want to encourage people to use the time they are given to see the world and make the most of their lives!
