We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Steph Clark. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Steph below.
Steph , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
After borrowing a sound system from friends for the comedy shows I was producing, the best investment I made was purchasing my own. The more you have to offer a venue, the more likely they will work with you.
Steph , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started Funny Girl Events to get more stage time for myself and as time went on I realized how I would only see 1 woman and sometimes no women on other comedy shows, so my priority shifted and it become my focus to make my comedy shows diverse, female heavy, LBGTQ friendly, and also represent 50+ comedians.
What sets me apart from other comedy shows is we’re building community. Our line-ups are a reflection on the amazing audience members that show up! We bring in and share the spotlight on local nonprofits and introduce them to our audience. People are connecting at our shows with other community members and laughing the entire time because we book the best quality line-ups! Consistency and quality is our main focus and people all over recognize Funny Girl Events as the go to comedy show in their area!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
People want a personal connection to you and your brand, so starting small is okay. Be consistent, know who you’re as a brand, and have an idea of what your ideal demographic is/ wants. Obviously, engage when someone comments or sends a dm. Setting up a linktree is important and helps your followers find your product and necessary links.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Showing respect and kindness to the community, comedians, employees, and management. Everyone wants to be recognized and acknowledged for a job well done, so appreciating those around that make your job easier is always important.
