Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steph Adams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Steph, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
My training as a model started from the age of 12. Then I finished school and studied hard to receive a Bachelor of Arts Degree in marketing and advertising at Curtain University. I also studied to get a certificate in Art Directing on Film at AFTRS in Sydney. This was a fascinating experience for me as the producers of Moulin Rouge came into talk to us about the creation on set. I hadn’t really had an interest in film until then and since being at Cannes and Venice Film Festival, I’m falling more in love with the world of cinema! The fashion industry, like any industry is a tough industry to break into as you need to be unique in your field. This is why I published Fashion Icons – a book of interviews on women in the fashion industry who give incredible insight on social media, how to start in the industry and make it a success. It’s perfect for young girls just starting out in the industry.
It took me several years of attending Paris Fashion Week, a decade across social media and ten books before anything started to happen for me. Even now, I am still learning! It’s important to be very passionate about what you do because so many times you will have people trying to beat you down and you will want to give up.
Steph, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was one of the first few fashion influencers in Australia when I started in 2010, I returned from working in London for Net-a-Porter after seeing the power of digital and people online all over the world on the screen in the work room. I remember being at my first ever fashion week in Sydney and people were confused why I was there. I fell in love with seeing the fashion on the runways and how each garment was made, meeting the designers and interviewing people behind the scenes as well as meeting new friends within the industry. It has become a lifelong passion now. It was in 2016, I headed to Paris Fashion Week and since then many of my books have been inspired by Paris, the history, the culture, the fashion and the people.
My main interest you could say is to empower women and give women a voice through a platform they may not have had. I have also started to interview men throughout my books. All the books cover; luxury travel, fashion, beauty, film and health.
What is most exciting is the next book coming out next year to book stores world-wide… stay tuned!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
It’s important to remember your ‘Why’, why are you here, why are you doing what you are doing? When you can answer these for yourself it will help you to better streamline where you are going and prioritise what is most important. It’s very easy to be distracted by people around you, so you need to be centred to stop yourself from moving off your own path.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My main mission is to keep producing books and empowering women.
