Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Stela Meyer. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Stela, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today The first dollar your firm earns is always special. We’d love to hear about how you got your first client that wasn’t a friend or family.
I have to admit that most of my clients come from referrals or, my sphere of influence. The very first stranger client however I met during one of my door knocking rounds. It isn’t the easiest thing to do but sometimes works. I had already been walking for 2 hours when I decided to knock at one more door before calling the day. I rang the door bell and no one answered,
When I was already leaving, by the driveway, I heard someone saying : “wait, she’s coming”. I looked back and saw this man standing on the ladder. I could see him above the gate pointing to the front door. I went back and the lady of the house opened the door.
She was friendly but said she didn’t have anything to sell right now. She said thank you and goodbye and shut the door.. But then suddenly she opened the door again, Looked down for a moment as if she had remembered something and said: “Maybe you can help me with this one property’. She quickly negotiated the commission with me and asked if I could come see the property in the next few days. I said yes and the following week I listed the property.

Stela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I like to believe that I always had a sense of aesthetic but never needed to really act on it. Until my first home renovation and staging.
I started by remodeling, staging and selling my own homes. It all started because I had young babies and one house didn’t have a laundry room. I built my first state of the art laundry room in a very creative manner and that got me enthusiastic to do other things to the house and to the ones that followed after that.
I always wanted to be selling real estate. Because of my experience buying and selling my personal homes, I had a leg up on the buyer and seller’s perspective.
I also used to be a kindergarten and a language instructor. I am empathetic and a good listener. My motto is to make sure the seller and buyer goals are met, and I am very proud of that.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I went through a divorce. I don’t care what level of amicability a divorce is. Every divorce is painful. Having the strength to keep going when you are going through emotional upheaving and doing a million things at a time.
During that time I had an episode where one acquaintance decided to use me for 6 months to get to know all about the real estate market in LA, just to announce to me a few days after our contract had expired that some other realtors had found her a dream house for $1,000,000 more than she had told me her price was. I wished her the best.
