We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Steffanie Harrison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Steffanie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
There is never a straight line to success, and what qualifies as success? The idea that entrepreneurs are born and not developed is an idea that interferes with deep desire. Sometimes, the idea of what something should look like gets in the way of cultivating our thoughts and refining our gifts into what is our creator’s plan for us. For many years, my college degree stood in the course of my dreams. I had paid too much for a Master’s Degree in teaching and spent too much time studying foreign language to be anything other than a foreign language Teacher. My daughter turned 2, and as I created vision boards for the Frozen-themed party, designed and purchased over-the-top decor, made themed finger foods, and planned activities for my guests to enjoy, the thought entered, and I wished I could go around and do this for other people. I love hosting parties; I love that it makes me level up my space and become a fanatical planner, and all the astonished looks on all my favorite people’s faces that I pulled off something so magical are priceless. It feeds my soul. Yet, I couldn’t even wrap my head around the details and already had a career. Everything happens for a reason, and it took until my daughter was 8 for me to mature into the concept tailored to my talents. It took COVID to readjust my priorities and deciding that a legacy for my family would be a blessing to leave behind. Glamp & Slumber Haven promotes the ease of togetherness. Space is a problem in today’s world and shouldn’t be something that separates us. Since most families have two working members, whether in the home or outside, it is nice to delegate some things that bring less joy so you can focus on what does. If you have a burning desire, I encourage you to explore those feelings; they will only become satisfied once you do.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
We create adorable overnight spaces. We have a variety of campers, indoor & outdoor tents. Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The idea entrepreneurs are born and not developed. Only babies are born, everything else we can learn! As I network with other business owners and develop the tools to grow my business, I realize there is no specific way to do any one thing. Every entrepreneur has a story, one they are very passionate about, that leads them to provide the service they are offering. Most of the business ideas they began with have developed something far from their original plan.

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Revenue streams are what make you an entrepreneur. Once you begin making money, the ideas to make more will become abundant; deciding which ideas to harness and bring to life determines the length of one’s entrepreneurship. Change is inevitable except from a vending machine. Glamp Haven was an idea that started from My Salty Haven, an adorable beach condo. After discovering a love for hosting in Panama City Beach, Florida, condo, I thought, what if I could rent the camper too? Most days, the camper (travel trailer) just sat; Carl (our first glamper) needed to see more campsites than we could give him. After our first glamper guest, we quickly acquired more Glampers (campers that have been renovated to look shabby chic). After hosting families, my desire for creativity wasn’t satisfied, and it seemed every guest was celebrating somehow. Then, one internet day, I saw beautiful teepees dressed in lights and lanterns and decked out with pillows, bedding, and balloons, and I knew I wanted in on all the fun. Now we set up for various reasons, but our favorite is bringing your plans together.
