We recently connected with Steff Barton and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Steff thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Raised in a Baptist church in the heart of the Midwest, I learned from an early age to cleave to the tried and true and to stick with the straight and narrow.
Following this path and fulfilling my heart’s desire to help others led me to a successful career as a nurse. Life seemed safe and easy enough, and I felt I largely had control. In an instant, though, my world radically changed when my mother died.
I struggled to find meaning in her loss and to come to terms with what I saw as a failure. Why couldn’t God or the doctors save her? Why was she gone?
At that point in my life, I realized something had to give–me! I had to give up convention, give up tradition, and take a chance by opening my heart and mind to communicating with the unseen world of Spirit.
I left my job and claimed my gifts as a medium, discovering my mom’s voice and recovering my hope along the way.
Leaving a traditional job was the biggest risk I’ve taken. Today, I work full time as a medium. The leap of faith was the best decision I could have made. I love helping those left behind connect with souls on the Other Side.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an intuitive and medium and have served in this capacity for twenty years. My purpose and passion is to stand in the gap between Heaven and Earth and give a voice to angels, spirit guides, and pets who have departed.
Through my business, Angels InSight, I offer individual and group sessions, Reiki healing, and spiritual coaching. I have curated several decks of angel oracle cards in addition to writing numerous books on the afterlife.
I love what I do! I am devoted to bringing messages of hope and peace into this world.
Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
As a medium, I am up against several stereotypes and religious sanctions. I am a big softie, so when I first started sharing my gifts and heard judgement and criticism from others, simply based on my line of work, I struggled against these hurdles.
Being a medium is not like the glamorous TV set readings, nor am I in some back alley with a crystal ball. I share my process, offer public demonstrations. and work tirelessly to demonstrate that Love is for all.
Tenacity and determination help me succeed. I am anchored so firmly my dedication to sharing hope that I keep moving forward despite any odds.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I consider each individual with whom I work a fellow traveler on the road. Life is challenging, rewarding, daunting, and amazing in different ways for every person; we all have peaks and valleys, high and lows. I treat my clients with respect, love, dignity, and open heartedness because, when it’s all said and done, we all need the same thing: Love. Generously expressing love and sincerely expressing appreciation for those I meet through my work has helped multiply my clientele.
