We were lucky to catch up with Stefano Profeta recently and have shared our conversation below.
Stefano, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Definitely moving out of Italy to pursue my dream which was and still is acting. I was 24 years old, I didn’t know anyone in the states and moved to Los Angeles by myself, without even talking a good English, in life it is fundamental to understand what is the life force that moves us and pushes us every day, my path was and still is art, which made me move out of my country and take a big leap of faith with my sole strength and force.

Stefano, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I decided to draft dramatic arts and acting at a very young age; mine was not a choice that came casually, I actually wanted from a very young age purse the acting career and be a performer. Since I was about 5 years old I was captivated and completely captured by the art of storytelling, which has the maximum expression in the motion picture; I wanted right away find a way to walk that path, and that was the one of studying drama arts and acting: I started when I was in high school with different teachers and acting classes; then after graduating from high school, I moved to Rome where I studied into the actor academy for 2 years, then worked in theatre and tv for 5 years and then moved to the United Stated where I kept studying and improving myself to these days, so as you all can see it’s a never ending journey.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Definitely the fact that you can capture and captivate an audience that has a very broad spectrum of ages and interest; when you perform as an artist or even when you are writing the first piece of what is going to be a work played in movies or theatre someday, the first thing you want to look at or obtain is an universal message that can be shared and appreciated by a variety of people and individuals; when you talk about love, peace, humanity etc., you want to capture something that anyone and everyone can relate to, in that way people can be touched to a personal level and very intimate because they share the same values or cores that are shown in the piece, and that is the most gratifying experience an artist can have, the one of touching the soul of the audience with the vehicle of the performance

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
The path of an artist is never ending, the one thing I always like to underline; it should always be a journey where reading, documenting, researching should never stop. Literature, philosophy, narrative and all the humanistic subjects come in hand and help the soul and mind of an artist thrive; the best work I came across in my life, as well as artists are Victor Hugo, Dante Alighieri, Dostoevskij, the works of Aristotle, Hegel, Kant really impacted my life and thinking
