Hi Stefanie, thanks for joining us today. Getting that first client is always an exciting milestone. Can you talk to us about how you got your first customer who wasn’t a friend, family, or acquaintance?
My career has followed a few different paths from web designer to digital marketer but all leading me to specializing in brand building marketing strategy with an emphasis on lead generation. When I was first branching out on my own I was trying to figure out the kind of businesses I wanted to work, who these people were and how to find them. At the time I was diving deep into my own personal yoga practice. I read a yoga magazine and and noticed they had a ad section for professional business services. I had a light bulb moment and realized that I would like to work with other people that were also into yoga. So I placed a simple ad and within a week had 3 clients. This helped me to build my confidence about how I could use traditional methods in order to build my new online business. It all ties together when you are offering professional services, so look to places where you can build interest based relationships to get a start.

Stefanie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I founded my company, Boomtown Marketing, because I wanted to create success focused marketing strategies and make them accessible to businesses of all sizes. I met so many new business owners and savvy startups that were overwhelmed with the plethora of do it your self marketing tools. They were finding that they spent a lot of time trying to figure out what would work for their unique business and wasting a lot of money in the process. Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
We were working with a relatively unknown organic beauty company that was phasing out subscription boxes but wanted to still have one of a kind offers in limited release. In a strategic move that some might say defied conventional wisdom, we worked with the client to create a digital only launch on an exclusive limited-time offer for a new product that was a collaboration between art and science. While some people might caution against potentially alienating regular customers with a new idea, the risk paid off. The scarcity factor created a sense of urgency and exclusivity, leading to a surge in demand as their customers rushed to reserve their art box. The resulting spike in sales surpassed all projections, resulting in a substantial increase in revenue for our client. This marketing gamble not only demonstrated the power of digital only launches and strategic pricing but also solidified the brand’s reputation as a leader in offering unique and sought-after products.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I like to build things and usually from the ground up, When I find a need in my business my natural inclination is to dive in and start doing and building. But you do not always need to reinvent the wheel, there are a lot of good services already in place that will more then suffice what your business needs. The smart business owners knows that being able to use the best and toss the rest can save them a lot of time and money. And I include myself here knowing that I can trust my team to help us make the right decisions for the success of our company.
