We recently connected with Stefanie Contreras and Michelle Bell and have shared our conversation below.
Stefanie & Michelle, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Deciding to do the podcast was the easy part of our journey. Who knew finding a name was going to be as hard as it was. We tossed out many names and rejected many names for a couple of weeks. We didn’t want to pigeonhole ourselves into one specific subject. Michelle threw out Pop Culture Junkees one night and it stuck. We both listen to numerous podcasts, but when it came time to produce our own we went in completely self taught. We learned as we went and worked through the hiccups. Stefanie has become a master at editing and makes sure everyone doesn’t have to endure endless “ums”. We have created a flow that works well for us and the guests that we have on. Honestly, we’re proud of how far we’ve come and know it will only get better.
Pop Culture is life. Stef and Michelle are the superheroes leading this geeky podcast and we talk about everything pop culture related: from Star Wars and Harry Potter to WWE, Netflix binges, and our favorite fiction reads. The Pop Culture Junkees podcast is a fun, positive and entertaining time where listeners can feel like they are geeking out with two of their favorite girlfriends.

Stefanie & Michelle, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Michelle and Stefanie are the voices behind Pop Culture Junkees, a podcast celebrating the female pop culture fans. We didn’t want to focus on just one subject as we both have such diverse personalities and interests. We love to feature our fellow creatives in our home state of Arizona as we are constantly amazed at how incredible the talent is. Our podcast is a positive spin on all things fandom and we strive to ensure there is nothing promoted on our show that would cause discomfort to our guests or listeners. Our hope is when you give us a chance and listen to our episode that you will feel that you are in conversation with friends and want to hear more.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
We strive to create a cozy space in the podcast scene for female geeks to feel they are valued and heard/seen. While it is more acceptable now to be a female geek, when Michelle and Stefanie were growing up it was ridiculed, our opinions questioned and mocked as silly. We want you to listen to Pop Culture Junkees and feel that you are sitting with girlfriends having these conversations.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
For Stefanie the goal of Pop Culture Junkees is to have fun and explore the things that interest her. If we are having fun then our listeners will have fun and feel like part of the journey. This podcast is a labor of love, so if there’s no fun, then there is no point in putting it out into the world.
Michelle feels the goal for Pop Culture Junkees is to provide a fun, female view of pop culture. There are a lot of male hosted pop culture podcasts out there that are fantastic, but she wants to make the female voice heard as well.
We are committed to hosting a fun, positive podcast. We want you to listen to our show and feel that we provided you with an hour of good vibing entertainment. We aren’t the perfect podcast. We stumble over words and we have awkward pauses that need to be edited out. But we are one hundred percent unique and we will guarantee that our heart is in every single episode.
