We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stefanee Gia White. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stefanee Gia below.
Stefanee Gia, appreciate you joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In April of 2020, at the height of the pandemic, I started studying aromatherapy in an attempt to maintain some semblance of mental health and combat the effects of isolation. I had some previous experience with essential oils and wanted to expand my knowledge so that I could not only incorporate their benefits in my own life but also share with friends and family. I began my journey with some basic essential oil blends, and the birth of my business, Blackbird Botanicals, was born. Eventually, I expanded into candle making, which is when I believe I hit my stride and haven’t looked back since.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Sure, I view myself as a Light Worker, specializing in the area of aromatherapy, which is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts to promote health and well-being. I take pride in creating high-quality, luxurious, & affordable aromatherapy products; prepared by hand with natural ingredients, eco-friendly packaging, and love. General wellness starts with small steps and I am committed to offering products that support daily self-care rituals, mental health, physical well-being, and an uplifted spirit. My intention is to make people feel good!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I think that the birth of this business in itself is an illustration of resilience. As mentioned, Blackbird Botanicals was born during the pandemic, an undoubtly scary time for everyone. As someone who has struggled with mental health and addiction I knew it was important for me to find a healthy outlet during an extremely uncertain time. Without Blackbird Botanicals my journey through the pandemic could have looked VERY different. I also knew others would be struggling as well, so I looked at it as an opportunity to stay healthy in mind, body, and spirit, while helping others do the same.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Building this business has not come without its challenges. One of the biggest obstacles we have faced is attempting to sell/ship wax-based products during the high heat of Texas summers. In an effort to overcome this obstacle we were forced to pivot to creating a line of products that were not affected by the heat. We were able to achieve this goal efficiently by producing a successful and approachable line of body sprays, soaps, and lotions, that would not only stand up to the heat of summer but stay on brand as well. These products were so well received that they will remain in our everyday line of aromatherapy year round.
