We recently connected with Stefan Hill and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Stefan , thanks for joining us today. Some of the most interesting parts of our journey emerge from areas where we believe something that most people in our industry do not – do you have something like that?
I would have to say that I believe in quality more than anything in my industry, because I am dressing clients to make them shine and feel better. Furthermore, they are trusting me to come and execute a look that they had no idea they would probably even think they could pull off. And I feel others in the same industry don’t take quality into perspective like they should. I think that most people just want to say they were able to work with someone and not give it their all and halfway do the job. But what I have realized while being a wardrobe stylist is that the clients value quality and how you treat and make them feel the most. They will remember you based on those principles because they go a long way in the end. And I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with legends and icons that have understood that and value the work and service I give them.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
For those who don’t know my name is Stefan Hill, I am from Atlanta, Georgia. I am a wardrobe stylist. And I have my own business called Spruced.byStef. I have had the opportunity to style some of the biggest legends and icons in the industry such as Usher, Ne-Yo, Monica, Wale, Kandi Burrus, Tevin Campbell, Taraji P Henson and many more. I started my business in 2020, because I always enjoyed styling my friends whenever we would go out somewhere, furthermore I’ve always been into clothes since a young age. I always wanted to always look my best because I would never know who I would possibly run into or encounter. Once I started my business, I was styling more people that were reaching out to me for my service, and then one day I ran into a well-known and respected Wardrobe stylist in Atlanta by the name of Jeremy Haynes. I will never forget this day because it was the day that my whole life changed, and I am forever grateful for him giving me the opportunity he gave me. Literally the next day after running into Jeremy I was at Porsha Williams house styling her for a trip she was going on for The Real Housewives of Atlanta. And ever since then it has been amazing, and I haven’t looked back since. I have had the opportunity to do literally what I dreamed of working on music video sets, award shows, concerts and much more. I am most proud of my work ethic that I have gained since working with Jeremy, he pushes me to give my best while working with him. He wants me to be the best and I appreciate that because, like I mentioned earlier, this is a lifetime opportunity that I am pursuing and a part of, so I give it my all. I would like others to know that are wanting to pursue this industry is to never give up, and always stay true to yourself because people value your authentic self-more than anything. They want to know that you’re not trying to be someone else, but just be you. And it will carry you all the way to where you never dreamed you would be, and Trust God and keep the faith!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was in Vegas with Ne-Yo for the lovers and friends concert, we also had styled the dancers and they were wearing fishnets with their outfits and the jackets they were wearing kept getting caught in the fishnets, so every time they would come off stage we had to manually press down metal hooks so they wouldn’t keep snagging the fishnets . So, they would be able to dance freely for their routine.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Yes, so I have learned that social media presence is very vital in this industry, people love to see who you work with and what you’re putting your clients in. Once I began working with the clientele, my social media presence skyrocketed, I began to gain more followers, clothing brands started following me. Also, brands would reach out to me to promote their clothes. In addition, my clientele began to follow me as well and tag in pictures of outfits that we styled them in. What I would say to someone that is starting out is make your presence known, no one is going to promote your business the way you want to. Tag the brands you are working with and people, create hashtags. It goes a long way in the social media world.
