We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Stefan Amali . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Stefan below.
Stefan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
I want to be remembered as one of the uniquely gifted, creative entrepreneurs that my region has ever seen and I’d boldly postulate that I am well on my way to achieving that. I believe in the purity of promoting a unified Caribbean identity and I live to explore that.
Stefan , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
This year Hi Esteem celebrates our four (4) year anniversary, being the Caribbean region’s most multifaceted marketing, design and talent agency. Our three (3) main platforms are our business development platform, artist development and the talent management platform. Under the business development platform, we help brands to decipher their identity through a process we deem as brand therapy. From our brand therapy findings, we posit a plethora of hyper-curated recommendations of what a brand can do to improve their brand voice. Our services under this platform range from social media management, event management , web design , Tv commercials, radio jingles and advertising campaign management.
Our artist development platform has grown tremendously this year, as we have been blessed to work with some of the most established artists in the Jamaican music landscape. Under this platform, we aim to assist musicians with their creative direction, content creation and brand positioning. We were able to work with Jamaican music titans like Vybz Kartel, Aidonia and Christopher Martin on some of their latest releases.
Under our talent management platform, we host a diverse range of talent across the Caribbean region and the diaspora. Majority of our talents are female talents and we are proud to be a company that is grounded by the principle of female superiority and we take pride in creating a platform that has allowed women to feel empowered, earn and debase professional objectification.
Worlds Collide Ja is our visual art business which is a subsidiary of Hi Esteem Agency and that has been a massive success once again. This year, our second staging of the show sponsored by Hyundai Jamaica was well supported and we have created a movement that bolsters the modern art in Jamaica.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Undoubtedly it’s our eye for beauty and talent. Even though Hi Esteem Agency has three platforms, the talent management platform is what allowed us to generate tremendous brand equity across the Caribbean region. I’ve always had an eye for beauty but I think that being coached in fashion by Miss Jay Alexander from America’s Next Top model helped to refine that eye.
It could not be a coincidence that one agency currently hosts Miss Jamaica Universe 2018 – Emily Maddison , Miss Jamaica World 2016 – Ashlie Barrett, Miss Universe T&T 2023 2cnd Runner Up- Dalise Lockhart, Miss Jamaica World 1st Runner Up 2022 – Lineisha Davis, under one umbrella. Our lives changed forever when we signed one of the most awe inspiring talents Trinidad & Tobago has ever produced – the incomparable Marieange Bovell. We are honoured to have the opportunity to represent such amazing talent and to redefine beauty standards of Caribbean people.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being creative is a magical experience in singularity , but being a creative entrepreneur is an even more mesmeric experience. Creatives are often disenfranchised for having poor business acumen but I stand confidently as someone who fights to debase that stereotype everyday.
Working with the Jamaica Tourist Board this year was one of those rewarding moments and was definitely a dream come through because of the work of people like Chanice Treasure and Kris Dacosta, who I appreciate greatly.
The second staging of our interactive art show Worlds Collide was another testament to this rewarding feeling. We chose a competitive week in Jamaica, to have our art show this year as it was the same time as the highly anticipated Chris Brown & Friends concert (which we also worked on) and we still had a great turn out.
