Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Steeve Legerme . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Steeve, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
Growing up, I was intrigued by the artistry of music videos and documentaries. Throughout the years, I have gained the title of the historian in my family as I am able to recall memorable family moments. This has been the motivation behind my mission, “Capturing life’s irreplaceable moments”. No matter what happens in life, I take pride in providing this to other families and allowing them to also relive those special moments in life. Life is short and although we cannot re-do a wedding, 1st birthday or a special holiday, you can alway replay it with videography.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
With a desire to be on camera, I studied Mass Communications in college. Soon after graduating, whenever I attended social events, I noticed my focus was how the event would look or feel if I could re-create the aesthetics of it. For example, which song would I play in the background? Should I use slow motion? What transitions I would use. This changed my desire to be on camera to being behind the camera.
During the beginning era of vlogs, a DJ friend of mine offered an opportunity to film and edit a video of him as a guest DJ on a major radio station in NYC. I borrowed a camera, along with a crash tutorial on how to use it from a friend. After this opportunity, I filmed 3 other occasions and for no apparent reason, I ended my endeavors into videography, after a short stint.
Who would’ve thought, years later, a conversation with my now brother in law would’ve reignited my passion for videography. My brother in law is a freelance photographer, who is excelling in the field and started his own company. He encouraged me to work on my craft and explore the world of video arts yet again. To be honest, I was hesitant because I thought it was too late to continue that aspiration. After consideration and convincing from my wife, I decided to give it another shot. One day, my brother in law presented me with a Canon camera to get me started. Since then, I have advanced and progressed within this field.
I love what I do and I can not believe I almost allowed fear to interfere. The feeling I have whenever my clients show their gratitude and appreciation for my work is unexplainable. Capturing a couple’s wedding day is such an honor and one of my most proud moments on this journey, especially when I look back at how I became a videographer. To be selected to capture a wedding indicates a level of comfort and trust in my abilities to provide a most fulfilling visual experience that the couple can relive for the rest of their lives. My current and potential clients will know they will not only receive a visual of their special event, but a dedicated experience that they can love as well.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Getting fired from my 9-5 job was one of the most degrading feelings of my life. When this happened, I was a few years deep in my journey as a videographer. I remember deciding to go full time as a videographer to see where that would take me. Some people take the leap of faith, that’s when you jump on your own terms. In my case I was pushed off the cliff. After being fired I made the decision to focus more on working on my craft to better myself. I knew it would be difficult but at the end of the day no one could fire me.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I always wanted to create a unique editing style. I like to pay attention to details whenever I’m filming. There is never too much b-roll. Capturing the right moments, backed with the right soundtrack, is key to my editing style. A style I feel helped build my reputation as a videographer.
