We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Starse3d a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, STARSE3D thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on, aside from doing session work with hundreds of musicians from around the globe and performing as a guitarist/vocalist in numerous bands, has been working on my original music in STARSE3D. Writing, recording and producing music for my solo project has definitely been a cathartic, almost spiritual release. For over a decade it has allowed me an outlet to express myself, and in turn help others through my art. Music is healing, and being able to put my work out there and hear how it’s inspired people or got them through life is really powerful and meaningful to me.
STARSE3D, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got into the industry the minute I heard rock and grunge music for the first time. Bands from the 90s, like Nirvana, really inspired me to pick up the guitar. From that moment I knew music is my calling; I felt it in my soul. I fell in love with music and haven’t looked back since, teaching myself everything from guitar, to writing my own songs, to singing and recording all instruments on the songs, to producing the songs and then marketing them.
Though I’ve performed in a few bands performing other artists’ music, finding musicians to work with has honestly not been easy, and I’ve always wanted to be in a a band and take my originals to the stage. This being a challenge, I turned within and began doing everything myself.
Aside from creating my own music in STARSE3D, some of my many projects include include session work with musicians and clients from all over the world, a feature on Dolly Parton’s Netflix series “Heartstrings” & NBC News with my cover of “Jolene,” radio play on stations like San Bernardino and Sonoma FM, numerous brand partnerships, and going viral on social media. I have over 30 songs released, and over 3 albums worth of material.
I’ve been working hard on my craft for over a decade. It’s an honor to see that my art has touched hundreds of thousands of fans.
I have a very strong work ethic and dedication to my work, and I bring my passion and creativity to every project. I hope to extend this to even more collaborations and partnerships in the future.
Music is such a huge passion of mine, it’s just always something I come back to.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Creative fulfillment. There’s just a longing within me to be creative, and when I’m not it feels like something’s lacking. I like to feel like I am expressing myself creatively, whether that be through writing, singing, recording, performing, filming music videos, producing or editing. It’s just a need, like the air we breathe. It makes me feel more fulfilled when people hear my music and it touches them or inspires them in some way. Other forms of creative expression for me have been making artwork and modeling.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I honestly just kept going with it, even when I felt like giving up. I’ve been posting my music since 2014. My first video was a guitar cover on YouTube. Social media is a platform for artists, but it’s also a double edged sword. If the algorithm is not on your side, it can really be a huge let down when your art, which you’ve worked so hard on, is not getting seen. Because art is meant to be heard, seen and shared. It’s therapeutic for people. Social media is a lot of hard work, I cannot tell you the amount of work I’ve put into not only myself as an artist, but also putting myself out there. Everything involves so much effort, but because I love what I do, it is worth it.
At the end of the day, if music is really important to you, views and likes don’t matter. Feeling fulfilled and feeling happy doing what you love is what matters the most.
