Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Starr Barrett. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Starr, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.

I started my practice at the end of 2021, beginning of 2022 with my daughter. The main steps we took were: coming up with a unique business name, submitting the proper paperwork to the secretary of state, making the name an LLC, trademarking the name, obtaining the certifications that were needed, scouting locations, researching services we wanted to offer, purchasing what was needed for the suite, and opening our door.

Some of the key challenges are marketing and getting the right clientele through the door, keeping your prices affordable and in alignment with your time, and ensuring our clients obtain a royal experience.

By knowing what I know now, I would have done more blogs, radio interviews, etc to get the buzz going prior to us opening.

My advice to those who may be considering starting their own practice would be to just do it! You never know what’s going to happen until you try and the only thing that beats a failure is a try.

Starr, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My birth name is Starr and I got into my industry when I was diagnosed with vertigo, allergies, and really bad sinus infections many years ago. I was in the doctor’s office every 2 weeks. The last visit, I was prescribed about 6 medications, and I was in my late 20’s, I just refused to take it. So, I called a friend of mine who was vegan and asked for some help. He asked that I promise him 30 days of commitment to what he was about to teach me. I didn’t have anything to lose and I was suffering, so why not?!? He had me commit to not eating meat, only intaking fruits and vegetables, taking natural herbs, eating nuts, drinking lots of water, and exercising. I agreed!

I started seeing a difference within 2 weeks and by the 30 days I was extremely better. I will forever be thankful for him.

I am most proud of healing myself and believing in the process. 8 years later and I still haven’t had vertigo/sinuses/allergies.

Have you ever had to pivot?

I had to pivot in business a few times, however the time that stands out is right when covid hit. Nobody knew what it was at the time, and I needed to make sure I took care of my household.

I always kept my Virtual Assistant (www.essyncevirtualassistant.com) firm in my back pocket. Remember I told you I was a serial entrepreneur? This was the perfect time to re-launch it. I revised the branding, did a press release, and wa-lah… it started blooming on its own. My daughter and I were one of the first mother/daughter duos to launch this, therefore it caught the attention of small/medium businesses, non~profits, as well as high profile client’s.

We are very thankful for all those who supported us and continue to do so.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?

I think what’s helpful for succeeding in my field is networking and meeting your tribe.

I’m always also ME. What you see is what you get, and I pride myself on doing GOOD business.

I appreciate building good relationships, but I also don’t mind holding you accountable. Balance is always key!
