Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Starlett Francis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Starlett, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I knew I wanted to take my creativity seriously when I tried everything else and I still wasn’t satisfied and confident. When I was able to release my true self in my music i felt confident and satified with myself. I knew all the jobs i worked at i couldnt really be my full self. i had to confine in some type of way that the whole company ran. I can be free and share my thoughts and others can freely agree. I am a free spirit and a person that wears her heart on her sleeve so when i can be unapolgetically me in my music I feel like thats where im suppose to be.

Starlett, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
When i was younger my parents and 2 brothers shared a 2 bedroom home. That home was so small but it was filled with a lot of love and a lot of music. Coming home from school, leaving to school, watching mom do chores, or watching my dad on the computer it was bound you would hear Sade, Lil Kim, Too Short, Ice Cube, The dogg pound, ashanti , destinys child, tyrese, missy elliot, and Xscape plus many more. I grew up to the best music of the 90s no matter how explicit it might be. My parents were real and blunt. So i knew when i wanted to write music I was going to be the realest I can be. I started making rap videos in my living room when I was 12. Getting older I started getting less support because the idela future for me was being at a University. Once i went for a year and drop out I didnt go back. i knew then I was going to take music 100 percent seriously. I then started providing music based on my feelings and slowly others related. I think what sets me apart from other musicians is my love for my craft without the money, without making it. I treated as an emotional outlet more then a hobby. I am also proud of the fact that I kept going and doing me even though a lot of family members shamed me for it or gave me the side eye. I went from honor roll student to rapper.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think my goal is to be myself and show people there are loving people still here in this world. There are people that still solve things out of love. Getting older, God has showed me my purpose and i feel like my purpose is to be this loving, fun person in my music and show people love exist and not everyone is a snake. I want to show people the light and the real. I want to show love and be and example of the holy spirit. I feel like i was made to influence large crowds in a healthy way and in a loving way but still be the realest.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Growing with every song i make is definitley the most rewarding. When I can see how my mindset changes its rewarding because my music is an overall journal of my feelings overtime. I also feel accomplished when people can relate and feel better about there situation when I can be transparent as well.
